Final Days: Chinese Scientists Have Solved the DP Culturing Problem! (2014)

I don't really think it will take 10 years. I think they just say stuff like that to keep bald people from getting their hopes up prematurely. I think it will probably take no more than 2 years. I think that there are a lot of researchers working on this very issue now. I think that the research receded for a few years because everyone thought that between replicel, Aderans, Follica, and Histogen one of these companies would produce a breakthrough cure. Since that hasn't happened it looks like the researchers are back in full force trying to find a way past the last few obstacles. -
I seriously want to hurt someone when I read this kind of bullsh*t. Why TEN years? What's the effing hold up? Did they really crack the final piece of the puzzle, call it a day and say 'we'll come back in ten years' ? What the hell are they going to do for the next TEN YEARS? Thats 3650 DAYS... of doing what?My guess: planning long-term research projects to maintain their importance and viability as researchers, collecting grant money, attending meetings, and holding meetings to plan future meetings. Or something like that.
I think, as researchers, it's not in their interest to solve this problem overnight. The longer it takes, the better. It means continued funding.Leave a comment:

I'm so confused about George cotseralis. Is his team working on hair multiplication or the whole wounding thing? This article published this month says he hasn't even started human clinical trials yet, what a joke.

That's not true. Transplanted hairs are donor specific and retain their original donor characteristics. Beard and body hair don't transform into head hair when they are transplanted, they remain the same as they were in the donor.Leave a comment:

So , in trying to get this thing back on topic.
How is it that the chinese say they have "solved" the missing link while these guys in an article, published 13th March 2014 here http://www.upenn.edu/pennnews/curren...inst-hair-loss say this : "Now that researchers have discovered a way to create epithelial stem cells, they must figure out how to maintain and multiply human dermal papillae cells, a finding that has so far evaded them. He says the ultimate goal is to be able to make a hair follicle in a lab.... will take us another 10 years ..."Leave a comment:

I myself don't really care if we stop talking about Nigam or not. I've made my points and I'm done talking about this issue until we get more information anyway.
But that having been said, I do think that if (and I admit that it's a big if) we get news soon out of the 2014 hair congress of a breakthrough that could potentially cure hair loss then we are going to be faced with a dilemma. We are going to have limited options when it comes to the issue of timing. We are either going to have to wait 6 + years or we are going to have to get a doctor to start the breakthrough treatment sooner. I pledge that I am willing to help in any way that I can to make it available to us sooner. It doesn't have to be a way that I think of - it can be a way that anybody thinks of. I will put time, energy, and money into a plan if someone comes up with a viable possible plan. If breakthrough info is disclosed then we will have to either think of a plan to get the treatment early or else we will have to accept being bald 6 years + even after the breakthrough news is released. The problem I still see with all this hair multpilication and DP culturing is that no one is yet sure what the surrounding scalp will do to these DP cell induced hairs, even if they do manage to induce completely correct hairs. I'm guessing that implanting just the DP spheroids will not be enough, because the cells around the DP cells will control the fate of the DP cells. For example, when a whole beard hair is implanted in scalp, it begins to turn into a normal scalp hair. Clearly, the surrounding sells are sending signals that changes the behavior of that whole follicle. I assume that the surrounding skin will also play a hug part in telling the implanted DP cells what to do. I think that until an entire follicle with surrounding tissue is engineered, we will not have hair. Producing a whole follicle has been successful in mice (tsuji), but so far no one has made a whole human follicle that is resistant to balding.
i think it'll take another ten years (jahoda started using DP cells in the early 2000s) before such follicles are even created (if we're lucky with the DP cell culture, which isn't yet perfected), and then they'll need to be tested and proven safe and lasting.Leave a comment:

Dr. Mwamba's technician came by our office a couple of weeks ago. I asked her about progress with Nigam. I didn't learn anything new. Patrick is a super guy and I think he will give everyone an update here before too long.
