Wouldnt the side effects only occur if finasteride were to enter your bloodstream when taken topically? I dont see how side effects would happen otherwise. I've been taking RU58841 for about a year and have had no known side effects. Last few weeks my sex drive has been quite low though I can only blame that on a lot of stress and pressure from work, so no time to even think or be interested in sex... although at one point my libido did go through the roof. I don't see how topical finasteride would have the same side effects.

I suppose one could buy a large cheap supply of finasteride and mix it with Rogaine (or some other minoxidil formula). Take that once daily along with RU also once day and it could prove to be a pretty awesome trifecta.

I dont know if that's possible, but it's an idea i'd think.
I was thinking about the signals. The DP (and maybe some fat cells aswell) signal the stem cells around the follicle to start growing hair. The stem cells become progenitor cells, and we become hairy. DHT disrupts the signal between the DP cells and stem cells (BMPs heavily involved here). We could add new DP cells with fewer DHT receptors, but for some reason the signals are still not returning to normal (aderans, replicel with regrowth but minor). So these cell based treatments seem to be reviving recently dormant follicles or saving shrinking follicles (vellus to terminal).

Dr cots says there are still stem cells, but they are not doing their job. So whats blocking that signal? Theres so much involved, TGFs, BMPs, Wnt, an other cell type which i cant remember the name off, PGd2, pge2 etc etc etc. Histogen look to skip the cell talk and create the signal via HSC. Thus, they are converting alot of vellus hairs to terminal. But why not follicles which are no longer producing hair that extends past the skin?

    Maybe its the PGD2 buildup....

follicles can recruit many new cells, or be stimulated by minox, or hsc, or whatever. But the PGD2 which literally surrounds the follicle might be preventing the induction of new cells and signals. Therefore, a pgd2 road block, along with aderans or histogen, might be the ticket. Maybe theres too much pgd2 around the follicle fighting histogens HSC, or any new cells from sending out signals.

Thats my laymens, probably ignorant, view of it. For now...

PGd2 blocking + histogen + aderans might equal total regrowth. Maybe its PGD2 that prevents histogen from having amazing results in regards to dormant follicles. The guys in white coats need to get together and connect the dots.

Whatever happens later on, cure or no cure won't matter, not much can stop this bullshit.

Writing this however, I'm *furious* with how much red tape there is and the disgustingly slow progress there has been for hair loss sufferers. I really want to rip someones head off for making all of us suffer for this long. They can clone a sheep, cure blindness with stem cells, treat and cure people from cancer..... but they cant grow a strand of f*cking hair?
You raise some pretty legitimate concerns in that last paragraph. A lot of the red tape is really unnecessary; that's why a lot of these companies conduct their trials overseas. Also, I notice the hypocrisy when plenty of treatments are unnecessarily held up before they are available to the public, while others that cause great harm are not even regulated at all. I highly doubt that bimatoprost will cause any deadly side effects, yet that gets held up for years. Yet shoddy hair transplants have scarred, disfigured, and literally maimed countless numbers of people for 40 years, yet there is barely any regulation in the HT industry. The hypocrisy here is literally staggering.

You're right in your last sentence when you say: "They can clone a sheep, cure blindness with stem cells, treat and cure people from cancer..... but they cant grow a strand of f*cking hair?" It also boggles my mind to think that they can clone an entire organism but cannot grow a strand of hair. The lack of innovation in the hair restoration industry is staggering. But as I say, the main players in the industry are making ridiculous amounts of money with today's current methods so I doubt they would want any new methods to arise and thereby make their current methods obsolete.

    1) Histogen's final Phase 2a results (after 5 years of research & development)

    2) Aderan's final Phase 2b results (after 9 years of research & development)

    3) Replicel's 24 month Phase 1 results

    4) Much more accurate estimates on Aderans & Histogen release dates!

    5) Dr Lauster should finish pre-clinical studies by the end of 2013.

    6) Tsuji lab should finish their preclinical studies by the end of 2013 or early 2014.

    7) Ironman's 12 month results with Dr Gho!

    8) Legitimacy of Dr. Nigam's stem cell therapy should be established.

    9) Australian-based Phase 1 clinical study (in Adelaide) using stem cells should get their 12 month results by the end of 2013.

The list goes on and on...

There is sooo much to look forward to.

I personally believe if you can see a light at the end of the tunnel, you will try and treat your hair loss more seriously!

Wishing you all a year full of exciting news and updates from these companies!

Three cheers for staying positive during these dark ages

Our Iranian scientists have come to our rescue once again! I don't know if you guys remember but a few years ago they conducted a 12 month study and managed to show that 1% Topical Finasteride is as effective as oral Finasteride!

They have finally published the results of their new study in Journal of Dermatology which looked at why Dermal Papillae in the balding areas have much more androgen receptors compared to non-balding areas. This is REVOLUTIONARY and could change things drastically in the near future!

Here's a little excerpt from their findings:

"We detected the significant upregulation of miR-221, miR-125b, miR-106a and miR-410 in balding dermal papilla cells.

    CONCLUSIONS:
We found four microRNAs that could participate in the pathogenesis of male pattern baldness. Regarding the strong therapeutic potential of microRNAs and the easy accessibility of hair follicles for gene therapy, microRNAs are possible candidates for a new generation of revolutionary treatments."

    LMAO, so true...

But to be fair, the red tape is needed! Did you read the stuff I posted about Tegenero trial going wrong!

I rather wait and make sure a treatment is relatively safe than to jump on a treatment that may significantly shorten my lifespan.

3 years my friend and we will be OK
