Someone taking me seriously or not about a subject that I've been intimiately involved with for fourteen years is not really something that concerns me on a day to day basis. I was referenced as a resource in the initial post of this thread and I quantified my experience and clarified my position. Take it or leave it. When arguments to the contrary of my first hand observations start to venture into the land of conspiracy and big pharma cover ups all in the name of the dollar, well, that is where I check out. Take finasteride or don't take finasteride. It's up to the reader.Joe Tillman

I´m sure that you have a lot of knowledge in your area, but you have to understand that some people realize how the hole industry works.
Sure Fin could work some people, but still the 2% sides is a big joke and the drug itself is not for hair loss from the beginning.Comment

Sorry to have overlooked this. No, I do not recall a single patient that legitimately told me they were suffering from permanent side effects after they stopped taking the medication. I had one guy call me and he told me this and he said that he had to take Viagra to overcome the side effects. We spoke for quite a while and then he told me he was happy about the fact that he no longer needed Viagra...... and then I asked him to repeat himself and when he did he paused and in a sheepish sounding voice realized what he had said and told me he'd call me back later. I said as much on one of the more recent shows.Joe Tillman

Thank you Joe and DR. Cole;
Dr. Cole; has any of your patients complained of other side effects ( depression; suicidal thoughts,..) ?
As I understand some people that were a part of Dr. Irwig study committed suicide. As bad as ED an libido problems are this scares me the most as a possible user.
Do you still consider Propecia safe, would you recommend it to your new patients ?Comment

For what it's worth I've been a Propecia user for over 8 years. I say Propecia because on the occasions I've switched to Generic Fin I've lost huge amounts of hair. I've done a one year & six month trial of the Generic versions. On each occasion I just lose ground on a long term basis.
Once back on Propecia I begin to regrow my hair after 12 weeks. I can't say that I've noticed any sort of difference between brand name and generic Minox. For me however: Brand name Fin trumps Generic. I have no answers as to why.Comment

The U.S. National Institutes of Health now recognises Post Finasteride Syndrome as a real condition.

I know many men that use finasteride in real life for many years with no issues. I believe the percentages in the studies of sides are near the truthComment

So I did some research based on the birth control pill comparison that is talked about on the show. Very interesting what I found.
An estimated 150 million women worldwide take birth control pills and a much greater percentage of that huge population suffer with sexual side effects as well as life threatening side effects then men who take Propecia. Why is it that there are no class action lawsuits being launched on behalf of these women proven to have permanent sexual side effects? And these have been proven by real studies, not just asking a group of men with ED who happen to take Propecia their thoughts on the matter.
Simply put, it’s because sexual disfunction in women is much more difficult for lawyers, society and courts to wrap their heads around. Lawyers don’t see any payoff so they do not pursue these cases. Perhaps now that there is a female version of Viagra on the market that will change, but do you really believe doctors will stop prescribing birth control to women?
You will find more anti birth control articles (hormonal and non hormonal) videos and forum posts than anti-Propecia. The only reason this issue has become so big is because there is money in it, not really for the victims, but for the lawyers, and the press will eat it up! This is how the world works and anyone who believes that just because there have been a couple of news stories or articles about PFS or that someone started a foundation, or that there are lawyers suing Merck are extremely naive to believe it’s because the incidence of side effects is so much greater than Merck would have us believe. It’s all about opportunity and in the end, money, ratings or whatever else some people believe they can exploit.
And what’s interesting is that even Irwig states that less than 1% of men taking Propecia have been found to suffer with persistent side effects in whatever clinical trials he is referring to. A much greater percentage of women who take the pill are effected yet where are the foundations and lawsuits?
Think about it.

The % of permanent sides is the problem. I mean even if they are at lets say 0,2%; that 2 of every 1000 people ( dr. Cole example).
If this can be proven than I am sure Fin will be recalled. It is strange that FDA refused to allow Fin as prostate enlargement prevention treatment but allow it for prevention of hair loss.
Damn still dont know to take this or not :-(Comment
