The best way to use this site is to ask questions about your hair loss or hair transplantation. To find a top surgeon go to www.iahrs.org and listen to Spencer Kobren’s show.

I'm now considering having a hair transplant but I was able to put it off for years and still have a good deal of hair.

Here’s my story, hope this helps you out.
Eleven years ago back in 1998 I was an 18 year old freshman in college and I was losing my hair. I had been losing it since about 16, I think but it was becoming very noticeable when I got to college. Styling my hair was nightmare and I was starting to get the comments from my friends. It came to a head one night when I was at

You may want to try sending your information including some photos to a handful of reputable doctors. Most will evaluate your situation and give you some suggestions and options for hair restoration and prevention of the hair loss. Keep reading and researching the different methods of hair transplantation and what each doctor/clinic has to offer. I do not recommend making any quick decisions. It is really important that you start off with reasonable and obtainable goals and expectations.

You are doing the right thing by looking around to see what is available to you.
Do not sign up or make any commitments unless you feel completely comfortable. Good decisions are usually made after long thought processes.

Yeats said that anyone should live long enough to comb grey hair. Perhaps anyone should live long enough before they transplant grey hair.

You can transplant over 4000 grafts in a single session. The question is what will it produce. 4000 grafts in the same surface area, which average 2.0 hairs per graft will yield 8000 hairs. The same 4000 grafts in the same surface area averaging 3.0 hairs per graft will yield 12,000 hairs. It is important to know not only your particular donor area, but the capacity of your surgeon. Hold them accountable!

If your hair loss needs 2000 grafts, don't do 4000 grafts. This will be the equivalent of replacing tires when they still have 20,000 miles on them. Why replace all 4 when you need only one or two tires.

Be smart, do your home work, and don't expect anyone to do it for you. If you defer to the latter, expect the consequences of your actions.

Surgical Hair Restoration Credentials | WebMD

All three are considered important organizations for hair restoration surgeons to be a part of.

The below information is from WebMD's Hair Loss Health Center.

            Surgical Hair Restoration Credentials:

The International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons: The IAHRS is a consumer organization that selectively screens skilled and ethical hair transplant surgeons. The IAHRS does not offer an open membership policy to doctors practicing hair transplantation, and is the only group that recognizes that all surgeons are not equal in their skill and technique.

Its elite membership seeks to represent the best in the discipline, the true leaders in the field of surgical hair restoration. The IAHRS's goal is to provide a safe place for prospective patients to choose a surgeon based on skill and not on their ability to buy public opinion through advertising.

The American Hair Loss Association recognizes IAHRS membership as an elite credential in this field.

International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery: The ISHRS is a nonprofit voluntary organization of more than 700 hair transplant doctors. The ISHRS provides continuing education to physicians specializing in hair transplant surgery.

Membership in the ISHRS does not constitute competence in the field and should not be considered a qualifying credential. Currently there are no set standards for admittance into the ISHRS. Therefore any doctor performing hair transplantation can become an "active" member of this strictly educational organization.

The American Hair Loss Association acknowledges the tremendous value of the ISHRS in the field of hair transplantation. However, its educational efforts should not be confused with any kind of credentialing process.

Regret, the internet as in life is filled will many different personalities. One man’s excellent hair transplant is another man’s OCD nightmare. There are guys who wear hairpieces who are grateful to have that option and there are men who could never consider wearing a wig. I agree that the hair transplant industry is a mess and that’s why this website exists. You might not have the personality to deal well with having a hair transplant in the first place and I'm sure there are many men who will be unhappy no matter how good the results are. It’s all about realistic expectations and this is why we all need to do as much research as possible before having a hair transplant. Do you have any photos you can upload? I’m curious to see your results.
