Bimatoprost finishing up Phase IIb trial!

Yeah I wonder when they're going to publish results... As far as I know, the study is finished in january so I don't know how long it takes to collect and publish data? I could be wrong though about the study itself being finished in january and not necessarily the results being posted in january.

The trial was scheduled to complete in November, and the results should be finalized in January. If they report the results immediately we should have them in a matter of weeks.

Have you seen this clinical trial by Duke University? There are results published on July 2014.

Good find. They got some impressive results, and they only used .03%. I'd love to see what this stuff would do at a higher concentration, and combined with RU.

In 17 weeks total hair count increased 27.4%, with the best responder out of 6 getting an increase of 112.5%.

One sour note is that it appears only one person got truly impressive results. The average increase in hair counts is only 8.65% if you remove the single outlier of 112.5%.

Terminal hair counts increased 12.1% after 17 weeks.

The vellus hair count increased by 78.1% after 17 weeks. Again though, the positive results were mainly the result of a single outlier showing an improvement of 406%.

No side effects were recorded.


Out of 9 subjects in two groups it looks like one person got phenomenal results, at least two people got no results, and the rest it seems got moderate results. This is very promising indeed.

I've been using .03% for about two weeks now, and I can't say there's been any change. I can't wait to find out the optimal dosage when the latest trial is released, and then I will consider buying some powder to mix.

This result hasnt taken into account combined usage with
other treatment. If it combined with anti-androgen, the result may be greater.

re taking with antiandrogen and higher dose BIM:

I have 500mg on it's way over from China plus 3g of CB and some OC. Will be looking to use between 0.25% of BIM plus c. 3% of CB, and TBC % OC

Will take baseline photos before and then at 3 mths

Not sure of vehicle as was thinking of using Neog that i've been on since Oct but really not to sure if it's helping - it def makes your hair shaft thicker but I'm a lot more scalpy at the back of my head. It does work as vehicle for delivery as i was trying to use RU but get fairly harsh sides (hence the CB ... altho might add 10/20mg of RU if needed as pre-caution given 5% 2x ED for CB in current trails... also have 500mg of Fin but, for me, that's a last resort for topical anti-a).

As you can see my tactic is to hit from all angles - not great for working out what the main driver of results is, but think is a better tactic for growth

Will prob drop neo or reduce dosage and stick to PG/Eth

Great no sides on BIM reported in this study - a little bit concerned over loss of iris colour plus one user on ******* report 'floaters' in his eyes that became perm. Also take confidence from IIb apparently being at these v high % - they must be fairly confident that such sides arent an issue as they'd be potential show-stoppers

Yea it's pretty much been stated that .03% is too weak of a dose by bim for hairloss, they seemed to imply that they had mixed results in the 2A phase which is why they raised it.

I'd imagine you get a much higher response rate at a higher dose, which is why im excited for the results!

v interesting - thanks Noisette... seems BIM vehicle on its own beat 2 of the 3 BIM topicals on the Target Area Hair Count metric. Be interesting to understand the concentrations of BIM topicals. Min at 2% was far superior to all

Then they wont go into phase III and the product won't be released.

It should get better results though at a higher concentration, 0.03% is extremely low, but obviously there's a chance a higher dose will just be better for those that already responded at the low dose.

If the results at 0.03% are somewhat decent and can occur ANYWHERE on the scalp, I'd be willing to bet BIG on this having results enough for a new product at 10%. Think about it, it's 333X the concentration of something that already works alright, somewhat comparable to minoxidil. Given the recent knowledge about prostaglandins, this will give further proof to the science and hopefully bring in a new era of treatments.

If this does turn out to work, I think you could see a company like follica coming forward and putting their product out as well. There's just too much opportunity for money to be made, because the combo would be the holy grail of treatments. To any of the naysayers regarding Follica, do you really think they've been sitting on this discovery and not readying themselves with a product?

Cotsarelis has said they will need to team with a company to figure out a new treatment, yea well it's Merck. Yaping Liu, a senior investigator from Merck has her name all over Garza's studies regarding PGD2. When Cots was getting through his presentation at the hair congress this summer, he thanked all the people who helped him with this work. When he went to announce where they work, he deliberately mumbles and kind of says "Merck" under his breath when it came time to tell us where Yaping Liu works. Start at the 24:00 mark of his presentation on youtube if interested. It's very telling IMO.

Also, Merck's patent on Propecia has already run out, or I believe it's been extended for a year? Either way, that's coming to an end as well.

I'm affraid that this stuff is going to be crazy expensive when it will first come out. But yeah, if the results are great I guess it's worth it. Besides, beggars can't be choosers right...

Yeah price on any new treatment is going to be painful in the pharma industry. The big thing here just being proof of the importance for prostaglandins which gives a lot of credibility to pgd 2 being important too. Maybe lowering the bad with pgd 2 and raising the good with this at the same time can compound the results but who knows really
Hopefully this gets good results and low incidence of sides. I think people are pretty desperate for anything really that gets any growth

They have to be somewhat competitive, you price it too high and youll get into HT price territory and people will just opt to do that instead.

i'd say 300-500 a year for this stuff at first, which is high but reasonable based on production cost and lack of competition.
