By rx drug standards fin seems safe and well understood. Even compared to stuff like accutane or antidepressants it is mild.
However it really does suck for people who get persistent sides. Hormone meds can throw your endocrine system out of whack if you are one of the unlucky ones, definitely. Some women will experience this on birth control plls as another example.
It comes down to priorities. Many men would not take a .01% risk of persistent sexual sides to keep their hair. On the other hand, I would take oral DHT inhibs even with a 30% risk of lasting sides
100% chance would be pushing it. Though I might still go for it once I saw that NW3 milestone creeping up on me
Edit- I do think docs should do a better job explaining the risks. The 1st doc who prescribed me fin literally said the only side effect she knew of was reduced ejaculate!
However this is why people should be reading the product literature (which I usually do not)Comment

Fin is basically the last resort, and I am very pissed off that there isnt a better alternative for the reasons you have stated. Because I would take it in a heart beat and go for a HT to get back down to a NW1
The same goes for anti depressents, I would not ever touch them if I were very depressed.Comment

^What else are we going to discuss? Histogen failing? Replicel failing? ARI failing?
For the vast majority of the balding population, the solution to hair loss is early detection + fin usage + HT. If you fall outside that, then you need to pray for these treatments.Comment

Well discuss it somewhere else! Not in the Cutting Edge/Future Treatments section, seeing as it is an outdated, potentially unsafe treatment!Comment

My side effects were actually very bad. It's been 15 months since I used it and I'm still not back to normal. I have good and bad spells and I don't know if I'll ever get back to where I was before I took it. I get lots of emails from guys who are devastated about side effects they're suffering.Comment

Which side is severe? Lower libido is moderate. Reduced ejaculate volume is typical due to prostate shrinkage. Fewer random boners is again, hardly serious.
We have a great drug for maintaining our hair, and people don't want to take it because of "lower sensitivity", "watery semen", or "fewer random boners"? You're positioning Chris's story as a horrible ordeal to convince people to stop taking fin, but really, a number of these things are hardly serious.
Not even getting into the fact that these sides are in the small minority...yeah, the anti fin brigade has a real convincing argument.
im just scared shitless and heard too much bad shit to take it. if I knew it worked for me fine I'd take it right ****ing now. hell I wish there was a way to screen.Comment

It still does not change the safety profile of the drug. You may suffer from sides, but let's take my case, I've suffered plenty because I didn't take the drug earlier, and more importantly, the data backs my argument.Comment

You need to get a grip. You are so scared, I'm willing to bet, as soon as you try the drug, you'll name all these exotic side effects...Comment

Literally im just scared after reading that shit. and I'd LOVE TO GIVE MERCK MONEY if I knew that it worked for me and I wouldnt lose my dick... or get depressed.. or any of that shit.
I'm not big on hugely altering drugs... anti-depressents etc etc.. I've seen those things **** people up.. and find is just a different version of it all and im just scared.
its that simple.
Hearing Chrisis scares me enough to say I'd rather be bald.. which sucks ass also.. but I mean..Comment

How bad is your hair loss btw? Is it aggressive? The way I see it, if you have mild hairloss like yeahyeah, you can afford to be picky, but if you have a fast moving pattern, then you need to take risks to save your hair.
Assuming you have moderate to aggressive MPB:
Probability of going bald = 100%
Probability of maintaining hair with fin = 85%
Probability of losing hair on fin = 15%
Probability of sides = 5-6%
Probability of persistent sides = <5%
Statistically, I think the winner is obvious.
The way I see it, reward comes with risk. Know the risks and the reward...the biggest variable IMO, and what will push your decision, is your rate of hair loss (and how much it bothers you). If you have mild loss, the reward is not large, but if you have aggressive loss, the reward is substantial.Comment

i took fin long enough for my mind to make me at least believe something was going on.. i felt a coldness in my penis.
Could it have been in my head? abso-****ing-lutely. it probably was. I tend to not be one of those people in many situations that gets screwed over..
as in - i dont have allergies.. I don't really have any meds I cant take.. so I'd probably be fine and it probably was in my head.
but at the same time I consider.. what happens when its too late? I have to try the drug to see ... and where is the line drawn from where I know im ok.. or to where ive done too much damage to come back from..
I mean i see what you're saying but regardless even if there is a lot of fake shit the fact remains there are plenty of people who DO SUFFER from propecia..
in the vast amount of numbers out there there is some truth. its all up to the person to toss that coin and see and to me even tossing it isnt worth it.Comment
