Let me start by saying I haven't go under the knife myself so I'm not sure I should be offering any advice but looking at the IAHRS members in California, Dr Ziering is probably the best known but I am not too familiar with his work. If you're really intent on surgery I'd recommend looking further afield. British Columbia has Hasson and Wong, Ottawa has Dr. Rahal, while in the US Minnesota has the Shapiro brothers and NY has Dr. Feller. These are the best guys in the US and Canada and the only ones I'd consider myself.
Haven't seen anything convincing with PRP. All the best with whatever you decide. Oh yeah, of the docs I mentioned, only H&W don't offer FUE, if that's something you're interested in. I wouldn't recommend Dr. Rahal for FUE though but he is a phenomenol strip surgeon.
