Hi distracted mom!! If I were you, I would see my family doctor for blood tests and have him/her refer you to a dermatologist. I wasn't very satisfied with the dermatologist. I felt I got the brush off, but a lot of people on our site seem to have good success with dermatologists. I have seen an endocrinologist and my gynocologist. Oh, I also saw a doctor who specializes in hormone treatments. I really liked her, but she told me she would have done the same thing my gyno did - put me on HRT: estradiol and prometrium. I am taking 1 mg of estradiol every day for 16 days and then I add the prometrium for 12 days. If I take the prometrium everyday, then I get this wierd burning on the back of my neck and it also makes my scalp burn around the nape area(go figure?????). I am starting to see more hair growth especially at my hairline around my face. I take all kinds of supplements: biotin, inositol, NAC, fish oil, lysine, vit C, calcium, magnesium, flax seed oil, and Kyo-Green. I have taken supplements for many years, but the interesting thing is that about a year and a half ago, I slacked off and then that is when my hair starting shedding. I am not saying that caused it, but it probably didn't help when I slacked off. I also was in a very stressful teaching situation, which probably contributed to my hair problem as much as anything!! I try to use only organic hair products and switch "the flavors" every month or so. I am only losing the "normal" amount of hair now(30 - 100) per day, depending on the day(ha!!). The problem is that when you have lost so much hair, you don't want to see anymore go!! I try not to count anymore, but because I counted them for so long, I can tell about how many comes out after I wash my hair. It is hard not to think about it all the time, but I am really trying not to. Some nights, I can hardly stand to lay my head on my pillow - it just feels wierd. I hope this helps. We gals need to stick together. You never know where the solution will lie. Good luck!!
