    2 Days Post Op 9/18/09

These pics were taken two days post-op at the clinic...

Pain and discomfort have been a little more than expected, but certainly manageable with the medication given... According to Dr. Hasson, Gemini1 and I were in the top 10% of the thickest, toughest scalps he has ever operated on in over 7,000 surgeries, and this is definitely a factor in both of us having tighter, slightly more uncomfortable results than average.

Sleeping has definitely been tricky, but again, the meds definitely helped here, too... As Gemini1 posted on his blog, the real surprise has been the itchiness that occurs--that is, you can't really touch your scalp to scratch it because of the new grafts there, but even if you could it wouldn't help because it's completely numb up there, except for this sort of "phantom itching..." Dr. H also gave us a tip on "Reactin" for this (which DID help), along with Joe's suggestion of a spray bottle to mist the itch with water, which was surprisingly effective. The gentle scalp-wash was an incredible relief, too... Am already developing crusts and scabs galore (yuck!)... All part of the process...
Working...
