I’ve been living with myasthenia gravis for many years.
There was a time when I felt like I was taking medication as if it were food. I was going to the hospital every few days. At first, I could get there on my own, but later I had to be carried in. It felt like I had come close to death more than once, and there were moments when I completely lost hope. Life felt like a dark tunnel with no way out and no light ahead.
Then one day, my doctor told me there was a new treatment option I could try — Efgartigimod.
When I first started using it, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. But as the treatment continued, I gradually began to notice changes in my body. Little by little, I found more strength to face everyday life.
I’ve now been using it regularly. My doctor explained that Efgartigimod is a biologic therapy and that long-term, consistent treatment is recommended to help continuously remove the harmful antibodies that drive the disease. It may also help reduce the need for steroids. So far, I’ve been following my treatment plan and receiving it every other month. My symptoms have remained well controlled, and my quality of life has improved significantly compared to before.
My doctor also encouraged me to regularly assess my condition at home. There is a tool called the MG-ADL questionnaire, which uses eight simple questions to help identify changes in symptoms affecting different parts of the body. It can help patients recognize worsening symptoms early and seek medical attention before things become more serious. I’ve been trying to stay consistent with that as well.
After everything I’ve been through, this treatment has given me more than just symptom relief.
It helped me see the light again. The light of life. The light of hope. The light that makes me want to keep going.
