Need some advice on how to proceed after receiving a citation:
I was driving in the Salt Lake City area and needed to take an exit I was unfamiliar with. It snuck up on me, and in order to exit I ended up crossing a solid white line. A Utah Highway patrol man then pulled me over qatar traffic violation, and issued me a citation for “driving over gore or island”. A warning I could understand since really you’re not supposed to ever cross solid white lines, but a citation for being a little late off an exit seems excessive.
I really don’t have the money to pay what looks like is going to be a $750 fine (looking online). Furthermore, I drive Lyft and will probably be barred from the platform if this goes on my record. How do I proceed to 1) get the fine reduced to something more reasonable for being a little late off an exit, and 2) how do I make sure this doesn’t go on my driving record?
As a side note in case, it affects my options, my driving record is not clean. A little over a year ago I got blindsided by a 16-year-old girl in a truck who had had her license for a month, and when the officer arrived to deal with the situation she was very attentive to the 16-year-old girl and her family, but wouldn’t even talk to me until she charged me with a misdemeanor that I was unable to fight off in court. This already got me barred from Uber, and it’s just pure luck that Lyft has kept me so far.
