What is your experience with Finasteride and Monoxidil?

    Hello,

Some 7 years ago I got a hair translant. Over the past few years I have noticed an increase in receding on my crown and back. I still have hair there, but very this. My front ( where most of the grafts were placed seems strong). I am not sure getting another transplant is something I want to do at 55yo, but I am curious to know from other members on here what success if any, they have had with drugs such as Finasteride and Monoxidil?

    Many thanks in advance.

Seven years post transplant with thinning at the crown and back is a pretty classic pattern. The transplanted hair at the front holds because those grafts are DHT resistant. The native hair around and behind them is still vulnerable to androgenetic loss, which is exactly what you're seeing.

Fin and min at this stage won't regrow what's already gone but they can slow or stop the progression of what's still thinning. That's worth a lot at 55, especially if you're not keen on another procedure. Stabilising what you have now means the front stays strong and the thinning behind it doesn't keep advancing.

A lot of members in your situation find that starting fin and min together gives them enough to work with without going back under the needle. The earlier you start the more you have to protect.

Worth a conversation with your doctor about whether your health profile suits either medication before jumping in though.

Your clinic is right on the minoxidil part. Minoxidil needs daily application to maintain its effect, skipping days consistently will reduce what you get from it.

The dutasteride side is different. Topical dut is typically used two to three times a week in most protocols because it accumulates in the scalp tissue and doesn't need daily application to stay effective.

The combo formula puts you in a bit of a bind because of those different optimal frequencies. Daily is the safer call if the formula is combined, just to keep the minoxidil working consistently. The dut at that concentration daily is unlikely to cause issues given how low systemic absorption is with topical.
