FAIL? visible hairline + smooth scalp = obvious tattoo

What do you think of this result:

It looks very good IMO, but it's completely smooth, so if anyone were to touch the top of his head or to examine it closely, they'd see that he's got no stubble.

Is this self-sabotage?

Or do some people who shave their heads to the bone actually look like that?

Not something I would ever do, but based on looking at the video it does look okay (not sure if my opinion would change after seeing it in real life up close). In any case, the guy was very happy with the result which is the main thing.
