    17 (almost 18) and Finasteride

Okay, so I'm 17 (18 in a month) and my dermatologist recently prescribed my Finasteride after I asked him about my hair loss situation. I'm thinning very rapidly and have a bad receded hairline. I'd place myself at around NW 2.5.

How should I go about taking Finasteride alongside Minoxidil? Is it the standard 1 a day Fin and 2 a day Minox? What should happen if there are sides, etc...?

Why would you see a dermatologist for your hair condition?

I was there for acne medication so I got a prescription of Fin as well. I don't need a 'specialist' to verify anything; the severity of it is impossible to misdiagnose.

Uhh.. because dermatologists can be perfectly competent on hair loss. I would prefer one over a "hair loss specialist" with vested interest in what treatments you choose.

I give you my house if he prescribes anything other than Propecia and/or Rogaine. Those are your only two safe options that are approved specifically for doctors to prescribe. You would be wasting money in both ways - doctor visit + paying extra for brand names.

Doctors are clueless about this process. Blind people have more options at this point than bald people...

Right. For the reasons you've stated, I'm choosing to self-medicate. Physicians are nice for administering lab tests though.

              Hi,

To answer your question it is 1mg of propecia daily and apply Rogaine twice a day (morning and night). Rogaine claims that it works only on the crown & mid-scalp but most feel it could work anywhere so apply it where you feel you need it the most.

I will add that 18 feels young to get on a medication like propecia but if the hair loss is troubling you greatly then it is the most effective option besides a hair transplant. Most people have success with it but if the hair loss is really aggressive than even propecia can't save it. Within 6-8 months of use you'll get an answer as to whether it is working for you.

If you decide to take it and sides are present you will feel them so you'll be able to decide for yourself whether it is something you want to pursue. You may feel some testicular pain early on but that tends to fade. The most bothersome sides are an overall decrease in libido and also brain fog which feels like your thoughts are like pieces of a puzzle and your constantly trying to put the puzzle together.

              best of luck.

Careful with fin at such a young age, mayhaps.

Where to you buy your pills from? I'm trying to find a reliable fin provider.

I chose inhousepharmacy. Seems to get overwhelmingly positive reviews - at least from what I've read.
