Am I doomed to go bald?

I am 17 years old and at the moment my hair seems fine at the crown when it is dry.

However when my hair gets wet, my scalp seems to be EXTREMELY exposed at the crown, but the rest of my hair in other locations reveals no scalp. Is this a sign that I am thinning and will go bald at the back? (It looks too bad when its wet, this can't be normal)

Horrible picture quality mate but your crown does seem to be thinning. Which is odd at age 17, never seen a student that was loosing hair around the crown area. You can maintain and thicken the crown area but not till your 18+ or 20 depending on what medication your planning to use.

    Do you have hairline/temple pics?

Your temple are thinning a bit. Are you loosing a lot of hair?

EDIT: the bad news you can't do much because your still 17. You have to wait till your 18 to start minoxidil and nizoral and once you hit 20s take proscar but after you see a dermatologist that specializes in hair loss.

Thanks for the response, but what I am asking is: am I destined to go bald in the long-run? Regardless of what products might slow that process.

No one is can say when and how you will bald, and certainly now via the internet. There are "balding patterns" and people say the earlier you start, the faster it will progress. Being 17 and starting, by that logic, means you're on the fast track. Do what Dex said and see a professional to see what is safe for a dude your age to do.

That's all an unprofessional on the internet can say really. You should set up an appointment with a dermatologist/hair specialist ASAP if you're concerned.

            Best regards.

This is how it looks when dry. Is that a bald spot or is it normal?

                That is totally normal.

Looks normal. Dryness, brightness of light, and picture quality has everything to do with appearance.

For the life of me, I can't get a picture to show my thinning on this website, but I know that it is.

Wait, why can't he use minox, nizoral, and possibly TOPICAL spiro (in b4 Tracy accuses me of trying to castrate him)? These topicals have pretty much zero systemic side effects and I don't see how they would affect his development in any way.

But isn't that how balding begins? (at the crown)

Surely that white area is going to get bigger, if its there already.

Not necessarily. Balding can develop many different ways. Your hair looks fine to me.

Maybe maybe not. Just keep an eye on it by taking pics over time. Take pictures every 3-4 months and over time you should know if it is staying the same or if something is going on.

FWIW my hair once looked very close to yours. A friend insisted mpb would start at my swirl and it eventually did.

That white part has only popped up in the past 1-2 months or so, I didn't have it in October 2012 or before that. I had quite long hair around that time, then I had my hair cut really short (really really short), and ever since then that 'bald spot' has been on the back of my head!
