Fin stop working after 4-5 months

I started taking fin in feb and for the first 4-5 months it worked great and I even had alot of thickening on the crown area. However after that the itch returned and i started shedding again. im coming up to month 11 and its still shedding heavily. My hair now looks much worse then when i started. I spoke to my derm and he had no idea what was going on. Has anyone had or heard of a similar situation?

Prolonged sheds are not unheard of.

My advice - stay the course. Give it 6 more months and try park the fear and stop scrutinising.

Get on MSM and Biotin to boost growth.

Biotin 1,000ug is a lot but I agree that Biotin is one of the few vitamins approved for hair growth support.

Hi Spex, how are ya. About 2 months ago I made a post reporting basically the same problem with an extended shed and scalp itch. It has now been three months since the shed began and I have lost significant volume, Especially in the front. I am a diffuse thinner and have not suffered from receding temples. Do you think I should continue to use fin. It worked well for four months and then BAM, continuous shed. My endocrinologist says I have a hypothyroid but Im scared to start taking the prescribed synthroid as I know a common side is hairloss. Any thoughts? Thanks again.

                      Update

Roughly 14 months on fin now. Hairloss is still pretty bad. I don't think fin will work at all

If fin isn't working after one year then you should step up to Dutasteride 0.5 mg. Which is Avodart. It blocks type I & II DHT. Fin only blocks type II.

dave, our stories are exactly the same. In twenty days I will have been on fin for 14 months. It worked great for me to for the first four months and then a massive shed started that has not stopped yet. That was almost seven months ago. I went to a derm who is supposedly a "hair specialist" a few weeks ago and she said she has never seen fin do this, she doent even think fin is responsible. She did a biopsy, watch out man, for me the itching is causing scarring. I started dutasteride the day I saw her, I'll let you know how that goes.

I never heard of finasteride working immediately. Usually people go through a shed and see results at month 6 to 8 and beyond.
