I have heard so many times that Doctors are not well informed on the matter but also I hear about rip-off hair specialist places that take your money for trial and error. So where should I go to first to save time and money. I am in the UK so if someone from the UK could give me a well informed and trusted answer I would be really grateful.

Your Dermatologist will most likely give you a prescription for Propecia (active ingredient being Finasteride). If you're comfortable with that, ask them for Proscar instead and cut the pill into quarters (get a decent pill cutter and pill box); it's much cheaper that way.
They may also suggest incorporating topical minoxidil into your treatment plan.

I've said this a few times on these forums: I had an awesome experience with a dermatologist at my University in the Midwest United States. It's a large, state, research University as well, I should maybe add.
The offered me a 3page packet with questions specifically for hair loss. Further, she gave me options in the form of a blood test, a biopsy, and/or propecia right away. I deferred to her discretion.
I'm sure there are a some great dermatologists at major Universities in the UK. Consider that if you have one in your area.Comment

if you are in the Uk, without any doubt you should at the very least speak to Spex if you want to physically speak to someone.
He is very well known, regarded very highly and really helped me out personally.
