is your scalp oily and itchy where the sheds occur?

You need to give propecia a minimum of 8- 12 months and remember the no. 1 objective of finasteride is to STOP further loss.

If you regrow anything its a bouns.

6 months is nothing, not long enough to see whether finasteride works for you. As Spex said, give it 8-12 months minimum (personally I would say at least 12)--you may need well longer than a year. But everyone is a little different.
The shed is OK. I've gone through several sheds on fin.

my crown is itchy and it continues to shed, however other parts of my head (temples, sides, and back) are shedding to but are not itchy. i understand that these sheds may be normal, but to shed this much hair everyday for 5.5 months seems unreasonable. if propecia is designed to keep what i have, then why is it making it fall out?

Finasteride causes hairs to shed and then regrow. I think it basically pushes certain follicles (particularly ones that are miniaturizing) into a premature telogen phase. After the "rest" period those follicles once again produce hair.

It's a painfully slow process, I know. Try to hang in there. When you're really feeling down, look at it this way: without fin, those hairs would have fallen out anyway, except none of them would ever have any chance of growing back.

What happens if say at 8 months your shedding a lot still and the hairs have not regrown after the rest period and you get side effects and need to put the drug down? Will your pre-fin hair grow back or will you be screwed?

I don't know for a fact. My instinctive guess is that most of the hair would come back, with the most miniaturized hairs being least likely to regrow. Maybe a doc or rep could shed some light on that question

Unfortunately, even if all of the shed hair comes back, it eventually will fall out again (and not come back) if you can't take fin due to sides.

What would the affects be for a person who takes fin and isnt actually experiencing mpb. Would it be really damaging?

Im saying this because Im sure I am but if the odd chance I wasnt how would taking fin affect me.

                    cheers

When we have these sort of discussions about fin, we really need to nail down what "regrowth" means. Do we mean 1.) regrowth of any hair lost to MPB in the preceding months and years, or 2.) regrowth of hair that was lost in the initial fin-induced shedding or 3.) a combination of the above?

(Me? I'm 5.5 months into fin, and shed an enormous amount, visibly way sparser hair coverage than 'baseline', so I'm screwed if I don't get some of that shed hair back.)
