Conflicting Opinions

Hey there. Long time no see.

If I've come across anyone on here that I've met on other forums/seen my posts/pictures, then I apologise. I've just had a lot of conflicting opinions so am a bit lost.

I went to my GP again to try and get a referral to a dermatologist, and she checked my hair and said there wasn't a problem.

So I turned to the internet. Again. I posted a couple of pictures to the Hair Restoration Network, and at the same time, I posted the same pictures to BaldingBlog. I kept tabs on what people thought of my hair on the HRN and Jotronic told me that pictures with flash turned on give out a false image, as the flash makes the scalp more prominent, especially since I've got blonde hair. He told me to post pics of my hair taken in natural lighting, to which I did. Everyone then replied saying I have ZERO hair loss or thinning, and I should stop worrying. I was more than happy with that, until about 10mins ago when I checked my email and noticed I'd had a reply from BaldingBlog. The doctor there said, based on my original flash pictures there was a 'possibility' I had slight hair loss as seen in a picture of my hair wet and standing up, showing a parting down my head. He then said he noticed a 'well combed hairstyle' that covers a 'suggestion' of thinning, whatever that means. I honestly don't comb my hair in a specific way to cover anything at all. I think because he's a doctor, it's messed me up more reading his opinion, because... he's a professional. So I honestly don't know where I stand.

looks like hair loss to me... any history of MPB in your family?

What the doctor meant was for you to go see a doctor who specializes in hair loss if this bothers you. You have fine blonde hair, which can create an illusion that you are thinning in certain lighting situations. Your hair line is a normal mature male hairline. An in-person consultation with a doctor who specializes in treating hair loss can give you peace of mind. If the doctor determines that you are thinning, at least you caught it early and that makes you more likely to be able to stop it before it gets bad enough to be obvious.

Honestly, looks normal to me, but as Tracy said for peace of mind you should have your hair checked for miniaturization. I think having very light hair may create the illusion of thinning.

I hope you're right, and it's just cuz am a blonde bombshell.

Anyway, I feel okay about my hairline. I've seen pictures from when I was 18, and it really hasn't changed much, if at all. And there doesn't appear to be any thinning. I don't like the fact it seems angled at the corners, but if I hadn't noticed it when I was 18, then it shouldn't concern me.

It's this stupid part near my crown. I just wish I'd taken pictures of the top of my head when I was younger. Instead of people taking pictures of me smiling, they should have just thought of the future and taken pictures of the top of my head. I'd know more if it's just a parting and I've always had it, or whether something is going on.

I've looked into, very briefly going to a hair specialist, but the cost and travel (I don't drive) put's me off a bit. Do dermatologists do the same thing? Because if so, I'd try and persuade my GP to send me to one on the NHS so they can have a look. If that fails, guess I'd have to go to a proper specialist.

I doubt I'd be in this state if I had a conclusive answer of everyone who has ever come across my pictures, cuz at the moment, across all the boards I'm on, I get "it's fine", to "it's a possibility".

That is something only you can make a decision about. Generally, doctors who specialize in treating hair loss will have much more experience, know how and measuring tools to give you an answer one way or the other. Yes, it is expensive to see such a doctor.

Okay, so the only way am going to find out properly is if I go to a specialist. I've looked around, and where I live, I can only find trichologists. Would these be useful?

Sorry for the bump, but I didn't want to make another topic. Figured I can be a bit annoying with all my questions and pictures (especially), but, since people say the best way to check your hair with pictures is every 6 months or so, and I do it obsessively every other week, I found on another forum a picture I posted just over a year ago.

Go see a specialist - a doctor who specializes in treating hair loss.
