I was sitting here lost in thought about my red-green color-blindness and my thinking led me to something I think might be worth pursuing.
I hear all this business about the X-linked AR gene. Well, why don't we figure out just how much influence it has? We know red-green color-blindness is an X-linked recessive trait. I have it, and I know my maternal grandfather wasn't colorblind, therefore I must have received it through my maternal grandmother's family.
Here's what I propose: any men who know for sure they are red-green colorblind investigate your family history of color-blindness. If you find any other color-blind men in your family tree, compare your hair loss to theirs. It's probable that you share the same exact x-chromosome, AR-receptor and all. While the X-linked color-blindness gene could come from various X-chromosomes within our family trees, this should at least narrow the scope a bit.
I think if we pool our results, we can get some kind of idea of what effect this gene actually has.
