It's more complicated than that. The real worry would be observing the problem from a neuromuscular standpoint. Reducing serum DHT by 65-70% is not the best idea as it will have an impact on neurosteroids and central nervous system signalling. To what degree? Who knows. Could very well depend on the individual.

Here's one small article I thought was interesting:

Anways it doesn't matter about 5AR1 or 2 being in muscle or not as DHT is deactivated by an enzyme called 3alpha-hydroxysteroid reductase. In other words T is always the active androgen in muscle. However it's neurological adaptions in exercise where DHT plays a big role. Neural output can be compromised.

      Here's my 2 cents:

I've been weight lifting for about 8 years now. I was on propecia for about 3 1/2 months with regular weight lifting of 3-5 times a week. No major changes to diet or work out routine.

In my case, yes I noticed a gain of muscle and strength along with other strange side effects, which may or may not have been coincidence.

I'm fairly confident that it was the propecia that gave me the extra boost in strength and body mass. I suspect it could have been that extra left over testosterone that wasn't converted to dht, but I don't know for sure.

One thing I definitely noticed and am fairly positive was caused by the propecia was a slight gyno. NOT PSUDO GYNO. The real kind where the glands under my nipples were bigger, not drastically, but noticeably by feel and touch, not so much visually. When I first started taking Propecia I was strongly against the belief that it caused gyno, but now I do believe it could...

I started Propcia around the beginning of October, and stopped around mid January. Right now the gland under my nipples are definitely smaller and hard to actually find.

I think everyone reacts differently to the drug as is the occasion with most drugs out there. You don't know how your body will react with side effects till you try. You could always look at statistics, but you'll never know for sure!

you said you've been weightlifting for 8 years now. Well when you were on propecia were you using any kind if testosterone booster or anything of that nature? If you are then you have to take an estrogen blocker or you will get gyno with the propecia and weightlifting

No i wasn't using any kind of test. booster or anything else hormone related besides Propecia.

But I believe its the same concept which may cause gyno while on propecia with some people. Because of the extra testosterone in your body that wasn't converted to dht, your body tries to balance out the levels of testosterone and by increasing estrogen.

Some people are more sensitive to estrogen which is the reason why some teenagers going through puberty develop more sever cases of gyno and some don't, depending on how sensitive or how much your body produces.

As a teenager I can recall having glands under my nipples which eventually went away as I got older and was much worse than when I was propecia. Maybe it would have gotten gradually worse if I stayed on propecia longer or maybe it would have balanced out and went away on its own, but who knows...

I think I've also read that some peoples bodies over compensate when trying to balance out the testosterone by releasing to much estrogen, but I could be wrong.

One thing I can recall that may support that I had extra testosterone is when I first started taking the drug my libido was through the roof, which was the exact opposite then what I expected. Then after the first month and a half, my libido kinda crashed, but not severely, although it was noticeable compared to when it was going crazy.
