Michael, It's more genetics will take its course rather than destiny. If the gene for baldness wasn't passed on to you by your father/mother destiny would NOT make you lose your hair. We're copies of our parents. I blame my ****ing father for this curse. 101%.

Well, losing hair is my destiny... but later in life I do not want to blame myself that I did not try to prevent this from happening... My effort to prevent this was to take Propecia... if it helps, then it helps, else destiny will take its course... No point breaking your head and trying to find a hidden cure somewhere, because if it is there then Propecia wouldn't exist!

Well it has been 3 months since I started on the medicine. After about 1 month into the medicine I cut my hair pretty short (blade 3). I did notice that the hair was not falling off as frequently but again new hair growth was probably not happening. Now my hair is long again , and the long hair clearly shows that I have a receding hairline. Propecia may not have helped in hair growth but I do think it is reducing the rate at which my hair is lost. I do not seem to show any sides, and with a short hair cut my hair does look full and better. Also for the past 3 months I have stopped thinking about hair loss which is the biggest gain for me.

Infact I will be going to the doctor this week to get another 4 months supply.

The balding process started for me around 8 years ago and I combated it with Rogaine only (which I don't regret). I do worry that because I haven't started using Fin until now that it's too late.
That's good, a good attitude to have. Realistically, this is what some people fail to understand: You need to give it at least 12-18 months to start seeing results. Before 12 months, all you should see is your hair slowed down/stopped shedding brutally. Of course with the occasional sheds that are supposed to happen.

So since you seem patient, don't get discouraged over not seeing regrowth before 12 months. The people that get results really fast are just lucky that their hair loss is not that aggressive or they caught it at the perfect time. The more aggressive your hair loss is, the more time you should give it to start regrowing.

I'm into my 7th month of taking generic fin/6th month of Minoxidil, and I can tell you with the way I was losing hair, things would have looked pretty nasty right now, instead I have a NW2 with diffused thinning on vertex and hairline that looked way worse last year and baby hairs on the left temples that were not there last December. I'm gonna be patient until the 18th month to really see what the treatment has done for me. And just for the hell of it i'm adding NOW Biotin capsules, Avalon Organics Biotin B-Complex W/ Saw Palmetto shampoo & Conditioner, and i'm also gonna try out Mane N Tail Horse Shampoo and Conditioner. Yeah, they're pretty cheap shampoos, but I heard they thicken your hair. I want to give them a try to see if they make my baby hairs grow. I am aware they are not for hair loss. But since my hair loss stopped, why not give thickening shampoos a try now? I'm sure they can only boost fin/minox effects and also the biotin capsules will help, I hope. If they don't work, well, they're cheap, no biggie. The reviews convinced me to buy them.

if you want to see results you should stick with it for a few more months, for hte first 4-5 months i didnt notice any significant change in my hair thickness, but by the 6th month my hair had grown very thick and quickly too i might add. And I even noticed a bit of regrowth.

I eventually stopped taking propecia because I was getting some sexual side fx from it and it freaked me out too much to continue and w/i two months I had lost all my new hair. But i am thinking of going back on it because my hair is shedding more quickly now and I dont know if I can deal with being shaved.....especially when people say the side fx of propecia usually subside for them after a few months....

Do you think you'll stick with it?

I may be wrong, especially given that I have 3 months less experience taking propecia than you, but doesn't it take awhile to begin having an effect?

The way I imagine it working is that when you start taking it, it doesn't improve the hair that already exists until that hair is lost, after which the new hair cycles in marginally stronger than the last. Then over successive cycles, the hair should come in marginally improved each time until it makes a noticeable difference.

Not sure if that bears any resemblance to the real process though.

Alright dudes, I too started taking propecia recently, I've just completed the first month. Also 29 years old.

Too early to notice if anything is happening to my hair, I'll try to assess that 3/4 months in although even that's too early to be objective.

For me the first month was just to try it, see if I got any sides and, if none, give it a year or two. Up to now the only thing I've noticed, which may or may not be down to propecia, is some dark circles around my eyes. It could also just be down to less than awesome sleep but I wondered if any of you guys have noticed anything similar around your eyes?

    All the best

good luck to you michael85, I also will start taking Propeica in about 2 weeks. After I consult Dr Fellar, I think its important to consult a surgeon. They can evaluate your situation better ...

Michael, I wanted to ask about your progress yesterday but I forgot my password!

That's great news about your progress!

I've now been using it for exactly 3 months. While I can't say I'm seeing new follicles (and don't expect to), I do think that my hair loss has ceased or slowed to some extent. A lot of hair is still falling out when I run my hand through it or in the shower but this has always been the case for me, even during the years when Rogaine worked for me.

The way things were deterioriating so rapidly before I started using Propecia and the fact that it doesn't appear to be any worse now, suggests that it may be working. However this could be because my hair is longer and I'm doing a better job of covering the thinning parts.

Generally my confidence is up as I feel it may be working. No significant sides felt lately but I'm not waking up with morning wood very often and my sex drive may not be as it used to be but I'm ok with this as I can perform when I need to.

    2 months update....

There was considerable amount of shed initially .... but for the past 8 to 10 days I feel that is reducing. Also I feel my hair is in general getting thicker... as I run my palm across my scalp, lesser hair seem to be falling out, and i see tiny black hair follicles coming out from scalp (new hair i guess, which was lost in the shed phase)... All in all, I can surely state that hair quality has improved, and hairline has stopped receding!

No sexual problem as I report this.. No loss in muscle strength!

    Kanyon,

I am 26. Yes I agree, that we are in the age for aggressive MPB. How ever it is dedicated by Genes. The Genes decide what age you shed for good. Hopefully propecia can at-least arrest that shed if not regrow!

Guys, its good to see updates from your side! I have a good felling about this. Let's hope our effort prevails!
