    From what I have learned so far in my college studies, baldness is a genetic trait inherited from your mother. Someone correct me if im wrong. Pretty sure im not as its still fresh in my mind

      I believe current thinking is that MPB is just about equally likely to be inherited from either parent's side of the family:

          Go to your doctor, tell him/her you think your balding. He/she will either send you to a dermatologist if he/she is not sure or will just give a prescription for Propecia[too expensive] but ask him/her for generic 5mg Finasteride, it's much cheaper. Buy a 1 year supply of Kirkland's Minoxidil. Cut the 5mg pills of Fin in to 4 pieces with a pill cutter which you can get in any pharmacy[that's what I do], when you want to take the pill. Take 1/4 of the pill daily. Use Minox on your scalp[not on your hair, on your scalp] twice a day, once in the morning, once in the night. Do this for 1 year, if you like the results, keep doing it. If you don't like the results, keep doing it anyway, because if you stop then you'll just go back to losing hair, and you don't want that, do you? Go on. Do what I just said. Your hair will at least stop falling, but you're young so you can see regrowth.

            Either your professor is wrong or you misunderstood. It can be inherited from both sides of your family with the maternal side being only slightly more responsible. See this link from Dr. Robert Bernstein's website. He is one off the foremost experts on hair loss and restoration.

            Bernstein Medical offers expert hair restoration in New York, providing advanced treatments for men and women experiencing hair loss and thinning concerns.

              My father had a thick head of hair. But I went bald at 30.

              Baldness comes from your mother's side. IE, if your grand-dad was bald, most likely you will be, too.

              Like mine was.

                  If your hair loss is MPB, then it's in your family somewhere. It just may not have been expressed in recent generations, so you haven't seen it.

                    Yeah guess it's lurking away in the family history somewhere

                      Baldness doesn't bother me anyway now, because I wear a very good hair system. And I should know, I wouldn't have anything on my head that LOOKS like a wig.

                        agreed MPB can come from either side of the family and often skips generations...i.e. my moms dad has a full head of hair while my dads father doesnt. guess what genetics i got? you guessed it, my dads father. My dad has a descent head of hair.

                        Genetics suck!!!!

                          That's wrong.

                          Hair loss is not strictly inherited from the maternal side of the family. It can come from either side. The percentage that most doctors site is;
                          51% maternal side 48% paternal it can also skip a generation. It is a very complex gene.

                            MBP can be inherited from both sides of the family and not just from the mother's side. This has been listed as one of the hair loss myths in many articles.
                            As for medications, there's the big 3 (minoxidil, finasteride and ketoconazole) but you amy want to consult with your dermatologist or doctor before taking anything.

                              No actually she was wrong. I've recently learned in a newer human growth class it's from both parents.
