Hi,
I am new to this forum. I had viewed a few posts on this forum in the past, and found the community to be really nice and the discussions very good as well. So thanks for keeping up such a great community.
I am nearing 40, and have had a slight baldness pattern around the temples from a few years. Till recently the baldness was not increasing much, but sometime back I felt like growing my hair. After a few months of growth it started getting a bit unruly, so I got myself some hairgel, to keep the hair in place. I think I did two things wrong:
1. After applying gel to wet hair, I combed my hair with a fine toothed comb, by starting from the front and pulling hair all the way back. I could feel my hair pulling, but did not pay much attention. Because of this, the place I used to comb the most (on the right side), is showing greater balding. Can this be because of traction alopecia? If so, is it permanent, or would a few hair grow back?
2. I made the mistake of applying gel on the scalp along with the hair. After some time, this caused reddening in a few areas, and those areas (incidentally the same place where I combed more frequently) started showing greater hairloss.
I am not very sure if the hairloss was due to traction, or reddening (or perhaps both). If hair lost due to pulling does grow back, then how long do they normally take to appear?
I have also started experiencing some (minor but distinct) pain in the scalp, and the region where I experience pain, also seems to have greater hairloss. Has anyone else noticed this? Is the pain some kind of residue from the reddnes, or is it something else?
Thanks in advance for the help.
