25 UK guy looking for advice

Hi guys. I've been browsing this forum for a while now and finally decided to join. I have had slow hairloss since I was about 17. It started with receding at the temple, mainly on the left and has no affected the whole of my frontal hairline. I have noticed my crown getting thinner now and generally all my hair is thinner than it used to be which is kind of depressing me.

I've always been confident, the life and soul of the party and never struggled to get girls but now my confidence is waining and I feel like an old man. It is silly but all I can think about all day is my hair.

I've come to a cross roads now, I have tried Propecia which made more of my hair fall out and am thinking of going for a transplant or fue before it gets any more noticeable.

Having read a lot of posts on here it seems the US is the place to go for transplants, DR Feller seems to be the man. The UK patients of British companies like Norton seem to slate them which is putting me off going for one in the UK.

Can anyone recommend a good Dr who is experienced and has a proven track record in the UK or US?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

How long did you stay on Propecia? One of the effects can be a temporary increase in shedding, which settles down and then gives way to improvement in hair thickness.

Can you tell us how old you are now?

Unfortunately, the UK is not known for having a lot of skilled hair restoration surgeons. The only one I've heard of being reputable is Dr. Farjo in Manchester. You can find a comprehensive list of IAHRS-recommended surgeons by location here: http://www.iahrs.org/SearchDoctor.asp.

That said, I would definitely suggest you postpone having a hair transplant for the time being. First of all, you are still very young and it is difficult to determine, at this point, how far your hair loss will progress. Secondly, it's generally not a good idea to start the hair restoration process in the crown region, particularly when you are so young. This is because the crown requires so many grafts to achieve a desired density, and you would be better of saving your limited donor supply for the front or top, should you later require work there.

I would recommend that you try medical therapies for at least a year to see if you can prevent further hair loss, or thicken existing hair. If you don't wish to use Propecia, you could try Rogaine. Remember that, on both of these medications, it is very normal to experience shedding in the beginning. However, these medications do work best in the crown and are most effective in young men who are fairly new to hair loss, so they're definitely worth a try for someone in your position.

As depressing as it is. We all are in the same boat on here hence why we are on this forum

If you do visit a HT doctor make sure to go in and put it all on the table and ask what result based on your expectations you will get. Do not be afraid to ask questions questions questions. Its alot of money and bare in mind you get one done you will probably have to commit to two or three down the line (alot of money). I dont think 25 is a good age to get one as you might find yourself in the predicament of constantly having to keep up with hair loss with more and more surgerys causing more stress and anxiety and depression down the line.

Have you thought about shaving your head and seeing if you like it there are many positives and before you cut up your head (even FUE) you should try that look you might suit it and honestly women generally do not have any issue with it. Sure some girls will not like it and unless you are a huge ladies man you may find the girls that really dig it will suddenly be all over you (versus a guy at the bar that is like every other guy)

I have had a couple small HT surgerys and one scar and I am wanting to shave my head now. It might look kick ar$$. We only live once. Thats my plan is go to Thailand get a tan shave my head and be free. I am not a tall or big guy and I worry about what I look like but I am tired of the constant worry plus the money involved. FUE is only good for guys with minimal loss so you risk losing alot of donor area there are no guarantees but its proven a better yield with strip. So back to my plan is to stay on the meds and shave it down because in five years who knows Histogen might be available plus if you want to do a HT then your hair will be in no worse off condition then it would of been. Just trying to give you another angle before you have a 20cm scar on the back of your head (mine is only about 9cm). Evaluate the before and after photos also as expectation is the key to any good surgery so if you have lost alot of hair and you never get back enough hair to be satisfied then surgery is not for you. And remember most guys with outstanding results still use toppik to thicken it up so you will never be free.

          Just food for thought
