27 Male - Need opinions on whether I should start on Finasteride.

I just turned 27(M) and am pretty sure I am at least thinning out especially at the crown and my hair is becoming more wispy and light. I've also had people comment on my hair being thinner. I'm not sure if it's full blown MPB since even my father has a large forehead like I do and is Pacific Islander. He is 58 and always had a visibly high hairline with deep temples like mine but thick dark hair everywhere else up until even 2 years ago where he has begun to gray. My mother is full German though and her whole side of the family has bald men.

I've been contemplating going on Finasteride and after extensive research have read both the horror stories and of the miracle it is. I am very healthy and pass all my physicals and blood work with flying colors.

I have come to accept that I've always had a high hairline even as a child and it's just my facial structure due to being part Pacific Islander. What really worries me though is my crown and the overall thickness of the front of my hairline. Do you think I have a good chance of Finasteride 1mg increasing the thickness of my hair in those spots if I start now and don't delay and is it worth risking the side effects? I might supplement it with Rogaine as well to jumpstart it if I did start on Finasteride. I convinced my doctor to give me a prescription but I haven't pulled the trigger yet and still am losing about 30ish hairs everytime I take a shower.

    Here is my current hairline:

    Here is my current crown:

Here is my dad in his late 20's:

And here he is now at 58-59:

Here is my hair short about 2 years ago (25 years old)

And here is my hair long about 5 years ago (22 years old).

    gotta tell something

it hardly looks like mpb as you said

but thinning at front and crown is MPB without any doubt.

its really hard to say how aggressive is your baldness (u had a high hairline since childhood) and whether you really need fin now or not. But the sooner u start the better it is bcoz whats happening in your scalp now will be visible only after two years or more).
In the meantime if your hair gets worse you may regret(like i am doing my hairline's a little mess now)

Fin is not that harmful and the sides are a rare case (i also got panicked at sides but with time your body adjusts)

you can start fin anytime u want, when u see sides just lower the dose(like u take it every alternate days or every third day and the good thing is it will be still effective)

One more thing, u have curly hairs, start MINOX asap, it will give a lot of volume and density(unlike me who has straight hairs and minox gave an unnatural look)

ALL THE BEST-- fin is the skeleton as of now and Minox is decoration( it doesn't do anything to stop mpb)

Thanks for the advice! I would go on Fin in a heartbeat if there weren't so many scary testimonials online (http://www.propeciahelp.com). Seriously some people say they've taken simply one pill and have Post Finasteride Syndrome and all those scary side effects. Terrifying. Just one pill?!
Even my doctor told me "you know this stuff can make you grow boobs".

And then there are others that say "yea man it's the best and I barely experience any side effects".

I realize there is a risk with everything but man... It's either take the chance to save my hair but risk never have an erection again and being depressed compared to feeling like the healthy person I am now but going bald. Ugh... talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place. lol

I honestly don't know how to do it. I really want to start taking it while my hairline is still salvagable but am too scared.

i hate those ppl who says intake of only few pils destroyed their whole life. It doesn't add up.
Yes there are sides but you can control them. I was also scared too but it didn't last long. U can give a try
        i am sharing my experience
hey guys, i am 19 now and will turn 20 this jan of 2017. I started FIN 1 month ago and i had good symptoms from the first. I am NW1.5 now. 1. the itchiness was gone from the affected areas and the crown was stabilsing. BUT after 2 weeks my eyebrows were thinning(i thot i wud lose them:(). Fortunately it just thinned and

the thing is ppl complain abt sides but when they get over it they dont care to update, i hope u understood why so many negative feedbacks are there on the net.

I hear you. That thread of yours has given me some courage and I might go a head and suck it up and try Finasteride out. And like you said I don't blame the people who try it and have few side effects for not coming back and saying how it worked for them to give us courage (though it would definitely be appreciated haha). Once you have your hair loss reversed or at least stopped for the foreseeable future why would you want to stay on a hair loss forum instead of being outside enjoying life haha.

Thanks again and I'll be sure to keep checking on that thread of yours as well!
