    Finasteride Shedding

Hey everyone, this is actually my first post on the board and would love some advice. I'm a 22 year old male that started seeing signs of MPB in the crown of my head last year. I am now seeing my temples being affected as well.

I am hoping to start finasteride soon because my hair is still fine at this point and would like to keep it that way. The only issue is that I have read that a lot of people experience significant shedding a few months into taking finasteride. This would be a big problem for me because my brother's wedding is in three months and I don't want my hair to look a lot worse for that big event. For those with experience with the medication, would you advise me to wait until after the wedding to begin or start right away and risk shedding right before the wedding?

Thanks in advance for the help!

When I started taking finasteride I was already losing 200 plus hairs a day, and my hair was fading fast. I figured I had nothing to lose and was desperate, so I started taking it as soon as possible. I was already losing so much hair daily that I didn't even bother to observe a shed. I just welcomed it with open arms. The sooner you start the sooner things improve and the more hair you will preserve. My advice - start asap.

Thanks for the advice! I know everyone may have a different response to the medication, but can I ask how it was for you? I'm just trying to gain as much information as possible to see if it is the right decision for myself.

I fall under the 1% category that experienced side effects, but I worked with two doctors to manage them and overcome them. Here is a link to my story with detail to the sides I experienced. I am definitely open to answerIng any more questions you may have in regards to the sides I experienced, and legitimate ways to manage them. https://www.baldtruthtalk.com/threads/23711-My-struggle

I started Propecia when I was 25. Was a NW3.5 with three transplants making me a nw2. Propecia definitely slowed my hairloss but it didn't completely stop it. I don't remember a big shed but when I started I was already losing hair so perhaps I lost a little bit more than normal, my guess is many that think they are having a shed are actually just experiencing normal balding. Will say I got of propecia about 4 years ago and lost a lot of hair over the next 3 years started back on it and hopefully will get some of it back.

Thanks for the reply! Can I ask how your experience with the medication was and why you got off of it?
