    Urgent help needed ASAP

    Hi everyone,

I've got hair transplant surgery setup 5 days from now and I've used some Nurofen Gel on my neck this morning as i've had really bad neck pain. I realised half an hour after I put it on that it says don't use it if you're allergic to aspirin. I also realised it said it contains benzyl alcohol.

My surgeon has said avoid the use of Anti-inflammatory drugs and medication containing 2-(acetyloxy)benzoic acid such as aspirin around 7 days before surgery.

I've had this surgery booked for a year and i'm travelling overseas to get it done.
I can't believe I was so stupid! As soon as I realised I had a shower and tried to wash the gel off, but I had already rubbed most of it in about 30 minutes beforehand.

Is this something that would prevent me from having surgery? I'm guessing the ingredients of the gel could thin the blood, but does it get absorbed as much as it's a gel?

Any help and advice is really appreciated - thanks!

Why would u turn to a forum full of strangers for this question instead of asking your ht surgeon is beyond me. After all he's the one that gave you advice.

My GUESS (I recent had shoulder surgery and they also told me not to take NSAIDs) is that some of those drugs can thin the blood and you can bleed more during surgery.

In any case run this by ur doc

You want to stay away from blood thinners, especially if you are undergoing FUT (strip) or large procedure. You should discuss this with someone from your clinic.

Thanks, it turns out it was ok. By the way I emailed the clinic, was just hoping for more immediate feedback on here. The operation went great!

Thanks, it was an FUE operation and I got in touch with them and it was ok. The operation went really well.
