    Dead follicles

how long does it take for a follicle to be "dead"?

I am asking because some of the future potential treatments claim to be able to recover any follicles that aren't "dead".

For example, lets say you start losing hair in 2013. If a treatment comes out in 2018 or 2019 that can recover these follicles, how much could you potentially get back vs how much would be gone for good? I'd imagine it would vary person to person

    thanks

I'll be surprised if anyone responds to that with anything other than a wild stab-in-the-dark guess. The only things we know for sure at this moment is what definitely doesn't work.

My advice would be look at minute details in the areas you think are bald. Even if you see peach fuzz that means at least something is happening. That's the cusp imo. Completely slick then who knows, it could just be completely dormant but still be able to produce hair if in the right environment.

All I can say is that I have (some) new hair growing where the scalp was completly slick bald for years since I stopped smoking (made my scalp so THIN and dry...) and begin to eat more healthy food (the goal was not to have hair growing, it was just a suprise). I'd say I'm an advanced norwood 6/7, so I can SEE when new hairs are growing, lol. No doubt about it. So, yeah, I think that just because you don't see hair on a bald scalp does not mean that follicles "die". The problem being that it's very difficult and almost impossible to regrow a lot. So in the end it's about the same... I guess it lives hope for the future. It's also true that it's difficult to say if those new hairs are really from follicles that were completly dormant for years or from follicles producing very thin little hair that were not visible. But in my case my scalp was so thin than I could not move it with my fingers, like if the skin was "frozen", no kidding.I had zero hair just above the "horseshoe" pattern, for years. And now I have new diffuse hairs above the horseshoe shape since my scalp is a bit thicker and can "move" under my fingers. it's the first tme in my life that I actualy have some hair growing back rather than hair disappearing. i'm not delusional, even some hundreds new hair does not change my look (and I'm fine, with the fuzz/shaved style), but to me it's the proof that some hair can grow back from a bald scalp.

The onset of miniaturization is probably around age 19, so hypothetically, as soon as 3 years. Everyone is an individual.
