    Minoxidil = Headaches & Propecia = Insomnia?

    Lately I've tried applying Minoxidil 5% two times daily, however, I've gotten increased headaches lately, could it be because of the Minoxidil?

    I'm also considering using Propecia, but would it give me insomnia? I already have minor insomnia issues.

    I have been of propecia for about 6 years; I have also had insomnia; however, I do not feel it was caused by propecia; I worked differant shifts in my job, stress etc...

    First, try make sure you are sleeping on a regular schedule; try to go to bed and get up at about the same time each day; I do take ambien, a prescription sleep aid occassionally, but you can't take too often or your body gets used to to it and its effectiveness is less; also, no caffeine up to 8 hours before bedtime; caffeine has a half life of 4 hours, so it can stay in your system and prevent a good sleep; I would not change your dosage of propecia; I do not feel it is related to insomnia.

          Goodfellas,

          Minoxidil and Propecia should not cause any problems to your sleeping pattern. I have never heard of either product to cause adverse effects to sleep or cause headaches. The best thing that you could do is go to your general practitioner and discuss your symptoms in-person. There are actually a few medications that effectively take care of both issues at once.
          In my experience, caffeine can cause both sleep issues and headaches. Until you get an appointment, you should look at side-effects of any meds that you are currently taking and analyze your diet as well. Good luck!

            I tried 1mg of Propecia yesterday and it did gave me insomnia. Even though I used both Melatonin and another sleep med I woke up 3 times and I've never felt so tired the day after in a long time.

            So far I've tried both Propecia and Minoxidil and none of them worked out with me. What else is there to try out? I've heard that Proscar might help, but isn't it just the same as Propecia?

            I'm also considering Saw Palmetto, and I'm currently using Nisim.
