    Wtf happened to my hair

Ok so I am on propecia for a year and 5 months and was on minox for two years. I used foam for one year and liquid for another year.
Fast forward, in November which was on year on fin my scalp started to sting a bit and the left side only my hairline and behind it literally died.. It is SO SO thin now.. Dr feller advised me to stop using minoxidil because of the thought that propylene glycol could be making it worse.. Now my entire head is thinning... I have no clue what happened.. That isn't evens pattern of hairloss in my family... I want to get a transplant but my hair is so weak now it just falls out... Either propecia or minoxidil ruined me.. I Feel like just killing myself.. I had great hair until this year... I can't even look at it when it's wet because I get SO SAD AND STRESSED.

Please someone give me advice.. Has fin ever caused this? Or minox? I just keep watching my hair get worse and scalp show through now..

Wow. So sorry to hear that. I can't imagine the stress that's causing you - which I'm sure isn't helping matters any.

Have you met with a specialist to get their opinion? Maybe they can run a test to see if they can figure out what the underlying cause is? Hopefully someone on the board has more knowledge of this and can help you more specifically, but I think a trip to a dermatologist would be worth considering.

Good luck getting to the bottom of this. Keep us posted with what you find out.

Thanks for the reply, Pkipling. I've been to my primary care doctor, and two dermatologists.
Primary tested for thyroid, diabetes, lymes, and vitamin deficiencies. Everything some back normal. First derm said that I had what sounded like seborrheic dermatitis, however my scalp was clear so she gave me a topical steroid which did nothing. Second derm said my scalp looked healthy and that it could have been seborrheic dermatitis or possibly contact dermatitis from propylene glycol in minoxidil. However, I never really got a rash I my scalp..

Also, when this random rapid hair thinning happened, I got a sty in my left eye and a rash under my left armpit.. It really affected the left side of my body hard for some reason. I also have small horizontal dents in my nail on my left thumb, but not on any other finger. From what I've read, something caused an interruption in my growth of hit and nails.

I'm so lost because I've done everything and can't figure this out.. The only things I honestly think could have caused this is either 1.) thuroid disorder and possible an autoimmune one 2.) finasteride caused some crazy hormonal imbalance in my body which led to all of the above..

Improper functioning of thyroid can be really related to your sudden hair loss, but as you mentioned you've checked your thyroid. Are there any problems with it?

All my results were within normal range. I spoke with my biology teacher and she informed that she was hypothyroid and Sonia her daughter. She also stated that her daughter had to keep getting tested and finally her thyroid hormone level was very high. I am probably going to go back and get more blood work, but I pass out every time I get blood taken. Never had a problem with blood or needles or anything. I guess the sudden drop of blood makes me pass out. Sucks

Very interesting. There are few things more frustrating than having a medical issue and not being able to get any concrete answers on the cause of and/or what's contributing to it. I can only imagine how this is affecting you.

I'm no doctor, so I can't speak on what could be causing this. All the particulars of your situation are very strange (only dealing with the left side of the body, for example). I think it is much more likely due to an underlying issue that for some reason, the doctors aren't able to pinpoint at the moment, than it is the Finasteride.

I've had scalp issues my entire life - dandruff, dryness, flakiness.... Some things that have helped relieve the symptoms for me over the years have been coconut oil on my scalp, apple cider vinegar scalp treatments - and most recently (at the risk of sounding like one of those radio commercials you've most likely heard over and over again) - Ovation Cell Therapy. I finally decided to give that a go about 3 weeks ago, as there's a money back guarantee, and I must say that my hair and scalp have both visibly improved. Not sure if any of that is applicable to you, but it's worth looking into I suppose.

Really hope you find a doc who can help you get to the bottom of this though. Best of luck.

Thanks for the reply, it means so much to me. I tried the coconut oil and apple cider vinegar along with niz 2% tar shampoo etc.. Most of them made my scalp burn worse. Tea tree oil shampoo did help a bit though.

I will look into ovation cell therapy. I haven't heard of this so I will research that treatment in detail. Was it an injection and did they treat just your scalp with this?

Nope, it's just a shampoo/conditioner line. Not sure if it would help you, but it's been working for me by keeping my scalp from being itchy and flaky - and making my hair super soft in the process. They advertise it on the radio all the time and I always tuned it out until I finally decided to try it several weeks ago. Had nothing to lose and nothing had worked up to that point. Hopefully it continues working.
