4 Months of Finasteride - Not happy

    Hey Friends,
I have been on Finasteride and Rogaine Foam for 4 months now. But, not been able to see any results, I was hoping that i would at least have less hair fall. But i have been continuosly shedding my hair.

My case is unique i have diffuse hair with little to no receding hair line. The hair has mainly thinned on crown area. Side and back hair are healthy and have no thinning.

I am very upset today, i don't know what to do!

I have attached my pic. My scalp is very much visible even when hair are dry.

And below link is for my story:
I have been reading through these forums since very long time, now decided to join. Hair (Here) is my story:- 1. Baldness runs through my family. (My father is NW 5V) 2. Started losing hair at 18 (Triggered early due to extreme stress and poor health) 3. At 21, concerned with continued hair loss, went to a clinic

Yeah dude, wait it out. Some people are lucky and have success early in treatment. I think for the most part the majority of guys have to wait 6+ months to see any noticeable change.

Four months is not long enough. You need to treat the problem for at least a full year to be able to assess if treatment is helping you or not.

It is very important to take good quality pictures when you first start, at the six month point, at the 12 months point and at the 18 month point. It is also important that you be as consistent with the photos as you possibly can. It is a good idea to get someone to help you with the photos and use a good quality camera, not a cell phone camera.

Tracy is right. Good, consistent photo's are the key. This is good advice for everybody. Some dudes around here post some of the worst pics ever.

Thanks everyone for the support. Yes, i know i need to wait longer.

But what concerns me is that hair fall has not stopped. Its consistent. Hopefully it will stop in coming months and lost hair will regrow back.

I am gonna take good set of pictures at 6 months mark and then at 1 year.

Got my DHT blood test results.

                      5-Alpha-DHT Serum: 709.71 pg/mL (Ref Range: 250-990)

I have been on Finasteride for 4.5 months now. Why DHT is still so high? Is Finasteride not working for my body?

                      Or are these tests incorrect?

Maybe you're taking fake pills? Have you purchased the actual official Merck branded propecia pills?

Or just gone with the cheap generic option?

I am taking generic fin from Dr Reddys (by name Finax)

Propecia is not available in my country. I did had some sides in the beginning like breast tenderness, so I kept on believing that the stuff i am taking is legit.

This scares me. I feel like I need to get some blood work done.

Anyone know how long you should wait to get DHT levels tested after beginning fin? I might have to make an appointment.

Could be the DHT is up regulating to counter the Finasteride the poster is taking regularly . But then it could the hair shed is the bad hairs affected by the DHT in the gradual miniaturization process being pushed out the follicle shaft for the new stronger terminal hairs to replace them. People think shedding is a bad thing when that is a phase in hair growth in general. You will have to be patient and wait past a year to see if your hair on the Fin is holding up or not.
