Well somebody has been buying all those millions of bottles of minoxidil each year, I'm quite sure that they weren't all bought by the forum members. Show me one man who lost hair in his teens / early twenties and thought "Im not too bothered by this" and I'll show you a real life unicorn.

If it only affected women then society's view would be " its the norm for women to go bald" and we'd still be where we are today only you standing in my shoes and me standing in yours.

Hair loss affects the quality of anyone's life, male or female is irrelevant. While the condition is more common the jokes aren't any less hurtful when you are a male, nor is the paranoia any easier to deal with or the sense of self consciousness when you're out and about or the bitterness that you're being robbed of your identity. It can all lead to depression and depression does not discriminate between sexes.
Coping with hair loss isn't about growing up, it's about coming to acceptance and that's easier said than done for many, and that goes for both men and women.

Does anybody have those moments when they think back to the days when they were NOT EVEN AWARE of their hair loss?

Mine was 17 - 19... wow... what a time... what a magical time.

          Well f**king said.

It's hard for me to speak on behalf of men different ages, but at 25 hair matters still. At the bar a few months ago, I saw a cute girl take a cap off of a guy to put it on her head in an endearing way, see his diffusion, cringe, quickly put the cap back on his head, and slowly walk away, leaving the dude in absolute pain. I actually know the kid pretty well; it was sooo hard to watch, and all the while I knew I was on the same path to the same outcome.

Minox and propecia are flying off the shelves and this woman has the audacity to say men who care about hair loss are a minority and mentally ill. Dat logic.

No recession actually. His MPB is the type where it's just straight diffusion.

I will also say his hair is at the point where he needs to shave it, but I don't blame him for having difficulty making that move. He's the only guy I ever had the guts to actually tell about treatment. It was really awkward, even though he's my friend, but he appreciated the info. I never did ask him if he acted on it - just letting it be what it is.

Interesting question. For current hair state, I would for sure take mine. If I had to decide between his or my type of hair loss, I might take his since they say diffuse thinners respond better to treatment. I still might take mine because I can live with an NW3 if I can get it to stop there.

OH GOD I have seen this too many times. Guys with very obvious balding should never wear caps to bars/clubs if they are intending to pull. The shock to young woman is just too much when it comes off.

Seeing this kind of sh*t when I am out seriously shakes me to my core.

Funny you say that: the rest of my night I was kind of lost in thought, having people ask me if I was tired or too drunk. In reality, I was just shook - memorized by the thought about the seeming inevitable.

But youre on propecia? Why are you worried? I mean you're doing THE MOST that is physically possible to halt hair loss.... if it progresses... which it shouldnt b/c of the propecia... theres nothing else you can do... surely there's an ounce of comfort in that right?... that you've done ALL that is physically possible besides chopping your balls off to stop hair loss?

I know if we put our minds together, made some effort, threw some money in... made some calls to some good contacts in the hair loss industry we could get some kind of study underway..... there has to be something tangible we can do as a community.... I find it weird how thousands of people just come here to talk... I mean I know its a forum... but cant we do more than just talk??

IDK, man. I feel like my hair is getting worse. Yeah, being on propecia makes me feel a bit better, but without results I wonder if I shouldn't just be allowing my DHT to go crazy. I really think I have T-related hair loss or reflex hyperandrogenity (sp), because it just doesn't look or feel better.

I seriously have a ridiculous head shape too. It feels like the clock is ticking.
