Going to a dermatologist, what should I know?

I've had MAJOR shedding for the past few months, more than 50% of my hair is gone and it's still shedding!

I've a blood test done and amseverely Vitamin D deficient, so I've been supplementing for the past month.

And now I cant take it anymore, I need to see a dermatologist! My hair is easily pulled out on the sides/back and I thought those hairs aren't supposed to fall out.

Anyone have tips on finding a great dermatologist? I'm in New Jersey, any recommendations?

I'm planning to have additional tests done for: metabolic panel and iron and ask the dermatologist if this is any type of irregular shed or the onset of MPB?!?

I'm not in New Jersey, so I couldn't point you to a dermatologist, but I will say that in my experience, a lot of HT doctors are pretty clueless when it comes to diagnosing different skin and scalp conditions. Most will just try to talk you into signing up for a procedure. I think you should see a dermatologist, but steer clear of someone who is heavily involved in the HT business.

There are many things that can cause hair loss. There is run of the mill androgenetic alopecia (pattern baldness), alopecia areata, telogen effluvium, severe malnutrition, scalp psoriasis, etc. You need someone who can really evaluate you, determine which of these you have, and come up with a treatment plan before you even think about having a procedure. That you are losing hair in the "safe zone" suggests to me you may have something other than typical male pattern baldness.
