Proposition for wealthy forum readers

I am still a Norwood 6 after 2 Ht's. First Ht in the 70's terrible plug style when I was in my late 20's. Second Ht a year ago at 61 with an FUT of 2100 grafts. Have fine hair so it didn't so much. Went to Dr Umar for a consult last week. Said he could correct my situation and make me whole doing 7500 grafts over a 5 day period using whatever scalp hair I have maybe 1000 to 1500 and the rest beard and chest hair using Fue method. Front and crown would be covered with temple points and some beard hairs put into the ht scars from the fut's I had. He was confident it would turn out well. I believed him and would schedule the procedure except for one minor detail. At $8 a graft the cost would be $60,000. Unless I won the lottery there's no way. That's more income than my household takes in a year and beyond my means. So if any of the wealthy forum readers is considering an HT and you're high on the Norwood scale and not sure who to go to or trust I'm willing to be a guinea pig or test subject and go through the 5 day procedure with Umar and document with pictures and verbally each step of the way to the final look. You would just have to put up the 60k and sit back and watch. If 60k is no big deal to you it would be worth it. I'd be taking the physical risk. If I had the money I would do it. this might sound crazy but I'm giving it a shot. So that's my proposition to the forum. If interested we can be in contact privately.
So let me see here you want someone rich here to plunk down the cash for you for your own HT treatment as a guinea pig and if you are successful they get to watch the result before they do it ? And if it fails then doesn't that open the door for litigation against them for funding your treatment that may have been botched because the specialist with almost certainly make you sign a waiver against most claims and will more than likely be covered against malpractice litigation.. hmm. In either case should whoever decided to do this for you they would gain nothing and you would stand to gain everything at their expense.Comment

No you are right there is no harm done. You only are doing harm to your own perception on the forums with this request.
It is just a ludricous question based on improbability to be perfectly honest seeing is that if someone was that wealthy more than likely they would not be on a forum such as this one.
They would have already flown themselves to a clinic in Europe after doing their own comprehensive research and had the procedure done themselves from an expensive specialist highly recommended in their own circles.
This particular forum is predominantly as a demographic ranged from working class to middle class blokes and in the age range from students to retirees. Paying for Minoxidil, RU, generic Propecia online which are quite accessible without being wealthy. In fact look at the number of posts and you will see people who had to discontinue their regimen based on expense or have complained about how expensive x and y is in receiving the treatments that they have been keeping up with.
And if even there were a rich person lurking on the forums here do you actually think he would take your proposition seriously ? Really ? Or that he would not see it even remotely as a hustle and that this is an angle to have the wool sheared from him like a dumb sheep ? I am thinking they would think the latter not knowing you from a hole in the wall as an anonymous person on a forum board. No person with common sense rich or otherwise trusts a stranger met on the internet with a large sum of their money in a venture that only helps out the stranger. That is where the P.T. Barnum credited phrase a " sucker is born every minute" came about.Comment

Highlander, I have about 1000 to 1500 scalp donors left but most of the other grafts will be beard and some chest hair. The question is of course will it be successful. I know it's risky. I probably won't get any takers on my offer so it doesn't matter anyway. Good luck to all.Comment

I think his goal is not a thick NW1, but to have enough hair to live comfortably. 5-7k grafts can definitely help him do this.
Also I would be amazed if anyone granted his request, but I am not that amazed he asked. It's nowhere near the craziest thing people have done to address hair loss.
One guy was on here asking if he could transplant grafts from his pet dog. Then there are hair tattoos (permanent ones)Comment

Right 25goingon65. Just enough to look reasonable. Not like Elvis. As for my request, there are many online sites where people request money for a variety of personal projects. Like Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, Quirky, Rocket Hub, etc. It's worth a try. No harm done.Comment

Well I have heard doctors say most people aren't good candidate for BHR, but particularly for some repair patients, there are no other options left as far as surgery (except artificial implants which are a huge no-no and not even legal in the USA anymore)
I'm just saying, as someone who would do very extreme things for hair (I have an unhealthy preoccupation with looks like many of us on this forum), I can understand his point of view. especially since he is a repair patient.
Edit: However, Lounk, people are raising valid concerns about BHT megasessions. Regardless of financing, in your case I would really recommend following topcat's usual advice of small "test" sessions to see how it goes. You don't want to be in the same position as when you got "plug" grafts in your 20s.Comment

I don't disagree with you or topcat. It's safer to do small procedures and see how they turn out. And I would recommend that for younger guys. After research and my consult with Dr Umar I would be willing to take the risk. In the end, I could always wear a hair piece like I've done for over 30 years anyway. I figure on average I'll live for another 20 years. 15 of those caring about what my hair looks like so time is working against me at this point. As for cures, it will be too late for guys like me. If I was in my 20's today I would be more hopeful and wait. I started losing my hair in my teens so I've had a lifetime of disappointment with the hair replacement industry. Except for financially speaking I have a lot less to lose now than I did when I was younger if the procedure did not turn out well. In the end this is something in my bucket list. Doesn't mean it will happen. And if it doesn't It would just be one of life's disappointments. Thanks for your input.Comment

Lounk-
Although I don't see anyone here honoring your request with a donation, you seem like a really nice and sincere guy, and I hope that your finances get sorted and that you can get your transplant at some point so that you may cross it off your "bucket list"! I can imagine getting 2 bad transplants and STILL being a NW VI would be absolutely devastating. I feel awful for everyone in these forums who have had botched procedures, and for all the pain/money/time that you all have gone through to no avail!!!
Anyhow, hope it all works out in the end for you buddy!! I try to keep hopeful, as I'm sure everyone here does, that there will be a more permanent cure for hair loss with stem-cell/cloning in the near future! Until then.......
Best,
MikeComment
