Can someone take Dutasteride and Proscar?

Can someone take Dutasteride and Proscar at the same time?

Since ive had good results in the past with 2.5 mg daily of proscar even though I occasionally go through a telogen effluvium for some unknown reason every few years I was thinking of starting on Dutasteride say 3 times per week (Mon ,Wed, Fri) and Proscar/Fin the other 4......

This way the longer half life of the Dut with type 2 will be in the system as well as the type 1.....

I could get the best of each with this approach.......I'd rather not stop the Proscar/Fin but still want to add the reduction of type 2 as well......

    Can anyone advise on this

I have never seen or heard of any studies that involve patients taking a combination of Finasteride and Dutasteride. Since Dutasteride blocks both pathways of Testosterone conversion to DHT it does not seem to make much sence.

      Hello Dr Charls

But since Im taking 2.5 mg Fin daily that's worked for me in the past what would be the DUT equivalent of this amount ......

This is why i felt both would be a better option .....I just want to add the other DHT blocker as an extra bonus without compromising the Fin benefit

In your opinion could it be done?

There is nothing that reduces just the extra single Dht alone

        Ok lets try another Question

I personally feel Fin is DOSE dependant as 1 mg daily did absolutely nothing for me for over a full year

It wasn't until i contacted Spencer that he suggested to try 2.5 mg instead...

Within 6 months I noticed my hair getting thicker and thicker for over the next year!....It also maintained the density for several years .......The only thing I noticed was every 2.5-3 years I would go through a massive shed for about 6 months then slowly fill in again but not as dense as the first time...(Still not sure why)

This has happened 3 times since I started....

My "NEW" Question is if Fin stays in the system for only 8-10 hours wouldn't it be better to take 1.25 2x per day say every 12 hours?

(I never tried it this way)

This way there would be little time for DHT to reform....

I take 2.5 mg every night before bed....

DUT at .5 mg though lasting longer in the system may not give me my unique required dose or the dose that's worked for me in the past.......

So before anyone can say that it blocks both types of DHT and should only take one or the other please add your views on the 2.5 MG Fin daily factor.........

Again how much DUT is needed to keep the same amount of the DHT blocker as in Fin for 2.5 mg????

Otherwise your answer is not helpful

I have also had a few patients who felt that the Fin 2.5mg dose was more effective for them compared to the 1mg dose. I do not know how much Dutasteride would be needed to match the DHT blocking effect that Finasteride has. I have never seen and data directly comparing the two medications. I guess it would be a trial and error situation.
