    Long hair, just noticed

    Hello.

I’m 34 years old and have had long, thick hair since age 19. My father is 66 and just started to show a bald spot so it’s always been taken for granted, perhaps stupidly, that my scalp would remain full of hair.

I’ve only noticed thinning hair in my hairline in the last few days. Checking my scalp with my phone for the first time, I was shocked to find a spot. My longish hair, I believe, has masked this.

What’s the diagnosis, folks? Does this look like doom? How long do I have? Should I cut my hair now?

All these photos were in the last few days. I’m almost exactly 34 and a half.

It is absolutely impossible for anyone to be able to tell you how much more you will lose, if and, when.

In your case, cutting your hair too short may possible expose more thinning. I think your front hairline looks pretty good. I would leave it alone.

You are far from doomed, I'll tell you that much! As already stated, it's impossible to know how far your hair loss will advance or the rate at which it will happen... Genetics can sometimes be a pretty good indicator, but they don't serve as a crystal ball.

Your hair looks to be in great shape all over except the crown - and even that it's extremely severe... I think a slightly different style might be able to help disguise that a bit, as the longer hair seems to be weighing your hair down and pulling it apart, exposing the crown.
