Am I going bald at 17?.

    Hi guys,

After lurking for a few months I’ve decided to join the forum! Hopefully you’ll be able to help me.

I’ve always had a high forehead, but as you can see, my hairline is receded, with a prominent ‘U’ shape. The hairline itself goes in further in certain places.

Now, I’m sure it looks really bad, but there are things that suggest I won’t go bald. Firstly, I have had this hairline since at least 12 years old. I don’t have any clear ‘before’ pictures, but they all show the same hairline and forehead. Secondly, the hair does not seem to be thinning on top. I do lose a LOT of hair in the shower, but my hair is about 6 inches long, which I’m sure is a big factor. I didn’t experience this earlier this year when my hair was short, but with the same hairline.
I have been tracking the hairline for about 6 months, and it has stayed the same in that time. Finally, NO male in my family is bald - dad has a full head, as do my brothers, granddads and uncles on both sides. However, my dad’s hairline is straight, with a big forehead.

So, what do you reckon? In England, we can’t see a dermo instantly. I’d have to see my normal doctor and get a referral, or see a hair loss specialst, who I’m afraid will propose a transplant straight away.

    Thanks for all your help!

It looks like an "M" pattern. Do you have older pics to compare? Are you finding hair in the shower, pillow, or hair brush?

      Hi, thanks for your reply!
The shower cloggs up pretty badly with hairs, I must say. However, my hair is long - about 7 inches curled on the sides, and 6 on top (down to my mouth), and I wait 3 days before washing my hair. Hair comes out if I run my fingers through, but I rarely find them on my pillow. I’ll look for some pictures

The first picture (worst quality) dates from October 2012, and the other two from October 2013. I think that they show no change, what do you reckon? I was 12 and 13 at these times.Click image for larger version
