26 Year Old Male, Just Got My First Haircut Ever. Need Assistance.

For religious reasons, I had never gotten a haircut. I wore my hair in a bun at the back of my head. Wearing this hairstyle for so many years has caused my hairline to recede quite a bit. I decided to cut my hair recently and am wondering if there are ways to grow my hairline back. Is this possible since I am still fairly young? Shampoos, pills, creams, anything?

If this is 'traction loss' from pulling your hair back consistently for so long, it should grow back on its own, I'd imagine. If it's male pattern baldness, then finasteride should help with losing any more hair, but you probably won't get your old hairline back.

I hope you're enjoying your new haircut though!

I really am enjoying it, thanks!

It is 100% traction loss from pulling it back. I was hoping it would grow back on its own since the hair loss wasn't due to genetics but because I was pulling it back. What are you thoughts on Minoxidil? Will it speed up the process?

Most of traction alopecia doesn't grow back, depends on the extend of the damage. You will have to wait up to a year to have the final picture.

From what I understand, and based on how you wore your hair pulled back for decades, I unfortunately don't think the chances of your hair growing back are very good. Once the hair follicles are so greatly damaged, there's not much you can do to revive them. The good news is that if the hair loss is indeed from traction alopecia and not from MPB, you won't see the hair loss advance. At this point, the best thing you can do is stop the former hairstyle (which you've done) and be patient. Give it a year or so and see if you notice any improvement. I suppose you could try Rogaine if you wanted to, but I wouldn't count on seeing any progress.... As with many things in life, you'll be better off going in with low expectations.

The only way to definitely restore the hair you've lost would be to get a hair transplant, but that's a whole other conversation.

I think you should try some natural remedies.
