    is my hairline receding?

Keep in mind...I never had a real prototypical juvenile hairline...I had 50 cent's hairline when I was 14 but a bit more recessed at the corners and lost that at 17. I am 20 now

pics are here...btw the top of my hair only looks thin cause I buzzed it down to a 1:

....and how I look with hair grown out: http://qkpic.com/9eb9d

and here is me at 17:

I have a strong history of balding in my family. Both grandparents are bald. My father is bald...and All my uncles are bald on both sides, except only one of them has reached NW7...should I just take propecia as a preventative measure?

    Am I a norwood 1/2/3?

Just looks like you're developing the mature hair line. It's exceptionally rare to retain a juvenile hair line. Many men you're age think they're balding, but they're not.

However, don't make my mistake. I thought I was developing a mature hair line, then it matured rather too much for my liking. Do keep an eye on things.

It’s really impossible to tell anything form those pictures. You should take some better ones if you want an accurate answer.

The lighting in the first picture makes it look like you're thinning right through the top, (with lots of scalp visible and the hair looking darker and therefore thicker at the sides) but as you say it's probably just because it's so short. The short length also makes it hard to tell if there's any thinning at the hairline. I'd call it inconclusive until we have better photos to see. These photos seems to have a high contrast between light and dark and could be misleading.

Based on your photos with longer hair I'd say you weren't suffering from hairloss at all, but these photos are quite small and taken from a distance. Really, the early stages of hairloss - before it gets totally obvious - require very good photos to give a real impression of what's going on, because the signs are so subtle.
