    What's next?

    Hi,

Let me start by saying that I'm really glad I found this website and hopefully some of you guys can shed som light on what I should do next.

I'm 31 and for the past 3 years I have noticed that I'm losing my hair. Actually I should be glad that it hasn't accured earlier since my father was totally bald at the age of 24.

Before this loosing hair period I had what you would call extreme thick hair. Everyone made fun of me because of my very thick hair, people would say that they have never seen anyone with that much hair. Well that is not the story anymore. It seems like my hairloss is not the common hairloss process.

I do not have a receeding hairline, I'm loosing hair in the crown and in the mid scalp. I started propecia 4 months ago and the shedding has still not stopped. Before I started propecia 4 months ago I still had lots of hair but now it seems like I'm losing more and more and faster and faster. Will I get the hair back that I have lost the last 4 months? Everyday I think of quitting propecia since it has done nothing except increasing the hairloss.

    What would you do?

    Many thanks!

    Milad

You are in a tough situation. You are seeing continued shedding, but want to give the Propecia a fair chance to work properly. We generally recommend trying Propecia for 9-12 months or else we will not know if it had time to give the full potential benefits. However, we do know that Propecia does help a good percentage of the patients, but does not succeed in all cases. You need to follow your gut in deciding whether or not to continue the Propecia. Most physicians would probably suggest staying on the medication another 6 months since you have already been on it for 4 months.
