Long term success with lower dosage/eod fin?

    Hi everyone,

Has anyone on this forum had any long term success using finasteride either below the recommended dosage of 1 mg/day (or 1.25 mg/day), or by using the medication every other day (or on a MWF schedule)? If so, I would like to hear of your success.

Based on feedback I have received from my patients who chose to lower the daily dose (ex. 1/2 mg daily) had more positive results compared to those who chose to take the medication on alternate days.

Thats because it has an almost flat dose response, I wouldnt wish propecia side effects on my worst enemy, God hath prepared no greater punishment for sinners than that which is endured by PFS sufferers.

Ya if your gonna low dose make sure you do daily small doses not EOD or MWF.

eg. the trials themselves have solid results for 0.2mg/daily, not as good as 1mg, but solid!

I agree with this as well.

My belief stems from understanding that fin may work great in respect to reducing systemic dht levels however within the hair follicle a daily oral dose of 80mg would be required to to see the same level of dht reduction as found in the prostate from a 1mg dose (or so I have been led to believe). Therefore dht will always be present within the skin and hair follicle waiting to be removed by drugs via an oral route where as the rest of the body may be dht barren. This is also why the idea of a topical dht reducing agent should be more appealing to the masses than it currently is. With that said scalp dht levels only need to decrease by around 25 - 32% for hair loss to typically cease.

Due to what has been said as fin has a half life of 6 hours dosing eod will not prove as effective as dosing every day and in this case even with a lower dose.
