    Started taking Propecia

Hey everyone. I'm 23, and first started noticing the loss of my juvenile hairline around 21. Dad went bald around 27-28 (although I suspect it began much younger) and his brother and dad the same. Mum's side is fairly solid, all men are NW3 at very old ages and pretty thick hair. After a year of (probably rather pointlessly) applying minoxidil to my hairline and using nizoral shampoo occasionally, I have finally decided to jump on fin. I have been fanatically monitoring my hairline for around 18 months now, and whilst the temporal recession hasn't been particularly dramatic, a sudden general loss of thickness has prompted me to get serious with this.

Have been taking 0.5g Propecia brand for four days now. So far, the only sides are perhaps that I have been sweating a whole lot more than normal (could obviously be coincidental). Has anyone else noticed this side? My libido/erection has been unaffected thus far although obviously it's early days. I will update this thread with any new sides and obviously updates on my hair. Currently I think I'm a NW2, but the temples are starting to thin quite dramatically up until around the NW3 point. Crown also seems a bit dodgy when wet, but not noticeable at all really when dry. I will post baseline photos soon.

These are some photos, no idea if I have formatted them properly.

Edit: They seem to work if you right click the icon and chose open in other window.

hey dude! ya looks like the combo of rogaine/fin will do the job! the hair is looking pretty good amigo! if you can i would up it to 1 mg in about a month or 2. Then again I have heard of people having phenomenal results with minox/.5 mg of fin. Best of luck. Peace!

Good job jumping on your hair loss early. I started losing my hair around the same time as you, but didn't treat it until my mid 30's. It was way to late to start. Hopefully you will stop the loss in its tracks.

I've been taking 0.5mg for a week now. Watery semen and some increased sweating are the only sides to report, everything else is fully functioning. I seem to have stopped shedding as much as I was a week earlier, although not sure if this just coincidental.

I'll probably update it after one month to see if any other sides have developed, and see how my hair is.

Do exactly that. Pop the pill and don't even waste time thinking about it. It will just mess with your head. See you in a month.

Yeah, the sweating is not a coincidence.. it's because the drug is ****ing with your system. Take your pulse and blood pressure too, I bet your systolic is 10 to 20 points higher than a week ago. Elevated blood pressure became an issue for me from propecia.

                  See my posts elsewhere.

Get off Propecia while your penis still works, you have energy, aren't anxious, depressed or have lost interest in life.

                  Propecia is dangerous.

You might get away with nominal side effects for months or even years but eventually it will creep up on you.

The sweating has stopped now it seems. Of course it could return, and I am going to be monitoring the other variables you mention, but for now I seem much the same as two weeks ago.

Thanks for the concern but I knew the risks (generally speaking) before I decided to take the drug. I know a fair few people taking the drug, and they are all side free apart from one guy, who has some slight ED issues that went away after a while when he started taking zinc supplements as well.

But yeah, even if permanent sides were as common as 1%, I suppose it's a risk i've chosen to take. To each their own.

Man, these dudes spreading the fear are in full force. Ducking, what I would recommend is to not even monitor or think about sides. If they are bad enough I don't think you will have to look for them, they will be obvious.

                          One Month Update

So I've just finished my first month of taking Propecia 0.5g daily. A general summary:

-No real persistent side effects as far as I'm aware (although i have been taking zinc supplements so perhaps that's helped alleviate potential sexual sides). If I was to be fully comprehensive, then I guess the whole process of masturbation has become (very slightly) harder to do- in terms of libido, erection strength etc, but its pretty much negligible.

-Shedding has got far more dramatic. A caveat is that my shedding got much worse in the weeks leading up to jumping on propecia- it was actually the motivational kick that got me to be proactive in fighting this hairloss- so that upward trend was already present. But yeah, for sure my shedding has gone through the roof. It increased as soon as I started propecia, but in the last week or so it has really gone into overdrive. Today has been a monumental shed. Every time I run my hands through my hair its like 5-10 hairs coming out, and waxing my hair this morning was like I had put superglue on my hand and slapped a wig. Another caveat potentially is that I have started applying regaine to more of my hairline, so perhaps that is also contributing to the shed increase.

I'm not overly worried about the insane shedding by itself, as I understand that it often happens and is sometimes a sign that the treatment is working well, but I am concerned when it is combined with the fact that my hairline seems to have gone to shit. At baseline, my left frontal hairline was noticeably thinning, centre frontal was fine, and right frontal was just beginning to thin. Now it seems as if the whole of the hairline has shown major signs of thinning. I don't really have much appetite for a situation where the propecia drops me way below baseline, and then then spends 6-18 months slowly dragging me back up.

But anyway, I'm not gonna quit just due to intense shedding, as that would be foolish. I am actually starting a new regime tomorrow of upping it to 1mg per day. But I am definitely pretty concerned and depressed about the dramatic- to me at least- decline in my hairline.

I should also point out that I don't think that Propecia is causing my hair to be worse than it otherwise would be. I am aware that these hairs I am losing would have been lost eventually anyway. I am just disappointed at the deterioration of my hairline, as I think this has pushed my hairloss over the threshold from not noticeable to noticeable by others. Like I said, I just hope the Propecia isn't going to drop me way below baseline for a sustained period, with little to show for it. Fingers crossed though.

Just need to rid it out.. sucks but it's true. I seem to have hit a point where I'm only shedding nearly invisible hairs since being on fin/min/keto for almost 4 months now (about 3 months on 1mg or higher). I really have no idea if the hairline is noticeable further back or thinner or what, or just in my head because logically speaking - the more hair in my hand the less in my head haha... Not sure if any of this helps you out since I'm only a few steps further than you, but that's what these forums are for.
