Advice Needed, 27 Norwood 4a-5 (Pics)

    Hi people.

I've been a long time lurker and I've decided to post for the first time.

I Have been around the Norwood 4-5 area for around 5 years. In fact, since 2008 I have been shaving my head with no guard as I decided it was too far gone. Around a month ago I decided to grow it a tiny bit to see what the situation was up there.

As I suspected it's pretty much the same, maybe a little loss but nothing more than expected. My question is, Is it worth maybe trying Fin & Min? I've always had a bit of a 5head and started receding when I was 16.

I realize I am probably too far gone and will probably just have to continue to shave it.

Also I do not want to have any form of HT, too much money for me.

    Cheers guys.

    Hi Gypsyrider,
Im much older than you and my hair loss is approx a NW5a ..
I have been on Finasteride, 1mg per day, for 2-1/2 months now. I do see a slight positive change already. I have had NO side effects either.
I feel that you should give Fin' a try. Your at a good age to do so and your NW scale may be hugely improved.
    Good luck brother !!!!

I am pretty much where you are and I started treating about 5 months ago. I have seen some improvement. Give it is shot, if it doesn't work, go back to shaving it down, no harm done.

Give fin a try? Come on! He's practically bald, what can fin do now? If a HT seems to be too much money for you, then do nothing, I don't think shaving it down would improve your looks. Good luck with your decision!

Is he going to get back to a NW0 with fin, no, but he does have hair on the top of his head. If he grows his crown back and thickens up the top of his head he wouldn't be in bad shape. It isn't like he is slick bald either. I have seen guys in worse shape get on fin. He could also be one of the lucky ones that is a good responder, who knows. And like I said if it doesn't work, stop taking the drug, simple as that.

AND since you did bring up a transplant. Getting on fin opens up that option too. Lets say getting on fin doesn't help him grow back any new hair. If it saves what he has, at the very least, it opens up the hair transplant option if he chooses to go that route in the future.

And again I still think he has a decent amount of hair worth saving. So yeah try fin.

Haha, cheers mate. I think you have misunderstood, I wasn't asking for advice on shaving it down, I have been doing that for years.

I am well aware of the fact that I am probably too far gone as I mentioned in my op, but I am just curious as to what min and fin could do (if anything)

Artista & Notcoolanymore can I ask what dosage and how often you guys are using? I'm new to this.

Finasteride might help you. I would say give it a shot. At the very least it will thicken and maintain what you have and you may even get some slight regrowth. It will make it so that if you choose to get a HT to replace the hair that doesnt grow back it will be 10x easier for your surgeon. Not to mention if you did get a HT chances are high that your doc will put you on fin anyway to maintain the hair that you could lose later on in life. It is always a possibility especially since you started losing your hair at such a young age.

Hi. You are a guy who looks great with your hair shaved down. Good head shape.

Try looking into the hair tattoo. It looks fantastic. If I was a NW 4 or more I would have already done it.

Google 'hair tattoo' and check it out. You will look great and its pretty easy on the wallet.

Cool head shape, reminds me of Jason Statham (always watching that guy's movies).

Even if you cant get your hair back, the shaved look isn't bad for you, especially if you have muscle. Remember there are guys with egg-heads, alien-heads, and hammerhead-shark-heads. At least you won't look weird.

But anyways I saw lots of before and afters of guys as bad as you on the Bernstein Medical site. After a year on both Finasteride and Minoxidil they looked much better. Have a look.

Although I wonder if the Minoxidil was that important?

I am on 1.25mg of fin. I cut generic proscar into 1/4's. I also use minoxidil and nizoral. It seems like you are comfortable shaving it down, but I say give treatments a try. Fin and minox are cheap and if you get tired of the treatments or don't like what you see you can just quit. Simple as that.

I think you would get it fuller in the areas of growth with Fin. Essentially, not improving the hairline much, but thickening what you have. Personally, if I could pull a shaved look I would do it in two seconds vs wasting my time with this crap. From the photo's it looks like you can pull that off. I say let it go.

What you have going for you is you are still young and I have seen some amazing results from young guys with advanced mpb get a LOT of it back on propecia/minox. I am not saying it is common but it's certainly worth trying.
