    28 y/o female hair loss

    Hi all,
I'm new to the forum. I've been experiencing significant hair loss for about six weeks and I'm not sure where to start, who to see about it, what type of balding I have, etc...

I do know that I have low iron levels. My ferritin level was a 2 at my doctor's visit a week ago. I expressed my concern about my hair loss and my doctor laughed it off. He said, "But you're a girl."

Based on my pictures, is there any way to tell what type of balding is going on?

You start by seeing a dermatologist who specializes in treating hair loss. Diagnosing female hair loss is not as easy and straight forward as diagnosing male hair loss. You need the help of a specialist.

Some things you can start doing right away:

#1. Reduce the stressors in your life as much as you possibly can and make sure you are eating healthy and getting enough exercise.

#2. Switch to sulfate free shampoo and conditioner if you have not already done so.

#3. Start taking a "Hair, Skin and Nails" multi-vitamin that contains Biotin if you have not already done so. Natures Bounty makes a good one but there are many others.

Here is a link for you:

I would first be concerned with getting your Iron levels back into the normal range. This may help your situation and is very important for your over all health. Then if the problem persists consider some of the non surgical hair loss prevention treatments.
