hyperandrogenecity - propecia side effects??

he guys this is my first ever post and im pretty new to this support network thing but at the same time excited that i found it. So here goes, im 34 now and started losing my hair over 4years although the process of loss has been slow compared to others, it has started to get very visabled and hard to hide. I started attending a hair clinic and the 'specialist' convinced me to sign up to a programme costing in total of £1400, that included, 9 months service of minox, propecia and weekly sessions of laser treatment, after months the minox and laser didnt seem to help. The main problem thou was the propecia, for the period of around six months that i used i had very bad sheds ( around 5 times as much hair loss than without it), but on top of this my head got really itchy and very oily, the consultant said he'd never heard of this before and brushed it under the carpet, i then contacted the company that makes propecia and although they were helpful they also said they had never had this issue as a complaint before. I stopped the propecia, but then went back on it a few months later as i couldnt deal with the hair loss, but agan the same issue happened, i done the same again a year later for 4 months and then gave up. After extensive research i came across the term hyperandrogenecity.

So i have a few question if anybody would be so kind to help me out.
1. Has anybody suffered the same as me with this, or is it just me?
2. Will this condition occur if i try any finisteride or could it just be propecia
3. And finally is there anything else on this planet that i could use instead of propecia that works?

I have not experienced this but have heard of it happening to others. Basically it is your body trying to compensate for the hormones that you are suppressing. You could give it a try on different types of DHT blockers like Dutasteride as Dutasteride suppresses DHT more significantly. However, I would recommend making an appointment with a physician for better clarification.

hey thanks for taking the time to reply, although i went to my docs about Dutasteride and he would not perscribe it to me said it was to dangerous, do you no of any other DHT blockers

Currently Minoxidil and Finasteride are the only FDA approved medications for hairloss I believe. I have heard Nizoral 2 percent shampoo can also be helpful. I'm sure someone with more knowledge can help you out. As for dutasteride, I know there are online pharmacies where you can order brand name Avodart or generic. Of course it then comes down to the risks that are associated with it and if the possible benefits outweigh the possible negative side effects. I personally would not recommend it as I have never tried the drug but in the end it's your decision. Good luck in your fight.

Hmm, it's the first time I heard of this. I definitely have increased facial oil, but not scalp oil. I have no pimples. My libido is normal even with taking fin 1.25 and dut 0.5mg everyday. I can only relate to increased facial oil and that's about it, but I always had an oily face so I don't know.

All medications will have certain patients that have negative effects. If you tried Propecia on several different occasions and the side effects occurred each time then maybe this medication is not for you.

You should have checked blood DHT and testosterone. Otherwise we can only speculate, what is happening with you.
