A War on Baldness, Fought in the Follicle

Few things are as likely to strike fear in the hearts of men as the sight of a receding hairline in the bathroom mirror. Farewell, sweet youth; hello, male pattern baldness.

Hair follicles are the culprits in this unfortunate turn of events. These tiny holes on the scalp shrink over time, depending on genetics and the presence of testosterone, producing not the lush locks of youth but rather hair that gradually thins into peach fuzz.

Now a doctor who has spent several decades learning the treacherous ways of the follicle may have discovered a new way to put the brakes on the process.

Researchers have identified a molecule that inhibits hair growth at the follicle, which could lead to new types of treatment for male pattern baldness.

do you just post every news article with baldness keywords?

anyways, they're talking about PGD2 again but forum as a whole already figured out that it's COX-2 that's upregulated that's causing a rise in PGD2 and decline in PGE2

Although we know about the 'PGD2 angle', there are always small updates that people may not be aware of in articles produced at a later date.

I think I'll stick with preferring the findings of scientists who are specialists in the field to group speculation from those who are not.

there is nothing new in that article. Baldness topic makes great headlines that's why it was reintroduced(it was never posted to NYTimes anyways?)

Dr. Cotsarelis, meanwhile, is working on another vexing problem. “Now we need to look at women who are losing their hair,” he said.
^ proof that Cotsarelis is trolling all of us

The discovery isn’t likely to help men who are already bald. “It would be too much to turn the clock back and reverse very extensive hair loss,” Dr. Tobin said.

Basically, those crooks are getting set for the post-Propecia era.
