I will chip in too. As mentioned already, Desmond would be ideal and I would chip in a little more for him and Hellouser. (BTW I have been on the forums since about 2011, not a huge poster, but on here enough. Had to re register....)

I think we need to get some exact pricing to compare. Especially for flight from Aus to the US.

No offence but you're being very naive. For a start, what makes you think Cots is even going to remember Desmond. Secondly, even if he does, what's the likelihood of him divulging any meaningful information to him?

Of course I cant say for sure that Cots will remember Desmond. And I can't say for sure that Cots will divulge any meaningful information to Desmond. But I can say that there is a chance that Cots might remember Desmond and that if Cots does remember Desmond then it might occur to Cots that talking to Desmond last year did not cause Cots any harm so Cots might feel a little more relaxed with Desmond this year.

On the other hand, there is NO chance that Cots will remember having spoken to anyone else from TBT last year because Cots did not speak to anyone else from TBT last year.

So if we try to have someone else, besides Desmond, talk to Cots this year there is a greater likelihood that the person besides Desmond would have to start at square one with Cots than there is if we have Desmond talk to Cots instead.

Can I guarantee ALL of the above? Of course not. But I can DEFINITELY guarantee that there is a greater likelihood that Cots will remember having spoken to Desmond last year than that he will remember having spoken to anyone else from TBT.

Well, sometimes I feel this is going to be useless. The reason is that any researcher will not say anything about their future treatment to a stranger who just stopped by and asked for some infos. Whatever they are gonna say they will say it on their presentation. This is only my opinion.

I called the hotel to see what the rates are because it would be cool if we could have Hellouser and Desmond stay right at the hotel where the congress is taking place. The hotel has special group rates for the event. The rates are $179 per night plus some other fees like taxes. The rate allows up to 4 people to stay in the room at no extra charge so the hotel won't cost us anymore for 2 people than it would for 1 person. They can't guarantee the number of beds but I explained to them that we would be sending to strangers so the hotel agreed to do their "absolute best" to give us 2 beds, and if we don't end up with 2 beds then they will definitely give us 1 bed and an additional roll-away bed. I booked the room from November 17 to November 22, which is 5 nights. I informed them that I would not be going myself and that in due time I would give them the name of the two people (up to 4 people) who would be using the room for those nights.

I had to book the room for the 5 nights because they only have 5 more rooms at this group rate for this specific event. The standard rates are about $350 per night so the booking had to be done right away to protect the cheaper rate. I can cancel the entire room/reservation at no charge up to until November 16 and if we don't work out all of the details soon I will have to cancel the room/reservation. We need to get them some money very soon. I had to pay for one night to get the booking locked-up so I have already paid for one night.

I also joined their rewards program so that the room will come with some additional benefits. For example, the occupiers of the room will get free internet, which usually costs $15 per day. They will have internet access in their room.

We can get Desmond to Miami RT for about $1,000 to $1,000 and we can get Hellouser to Miami from Canada for about $600. The hotel will cost about $1100 but that will cover both of them. The entry fee will cost about $1,500 for both of them. The total is about $5,000 - $6,000 to get both Hellouser and Desmond to the Congress. Let's get it done.
Desmond and Hellouser should both go, I don't think its unreasonable for each of them to chip in as well like 400 or so.. heck if i was being offered this chance i'd pull 400 or 500 out of my account to close the deal.

                    regarding the poll votes:

we should keep in mind that MANY visitors are not registered as forum users. some of them are lurking in read-only mode for months and years, or would like to join but can't because their account never gets activated (it happend to me too. i had to register multiple times over many months until i finally was accepted to the forum. that was weird and i had no explanation for it, but i assume it happens to many other users as well).

more important is, that even some of those people with no active account, but watching this threads closely, are probably willing to donate. they just can't talk to us with no active account. when we set up the account for transferring the money, we will see if non-members will donate too.

so let's see what comes out after 2 weeks when more people voted.
but no matter what comes out of it, i wouldn't limit our decisions just to those guys who press the YES button in that poll. it's simply not accurate to draw conclusions.
we managed to gather the money the last time, so we will make it this time as well. worst case would be that we could send only one man to the congress.
but hellouser should definitely set up an account so that the money can fly in.
i propose that the second guy who wants to attend the congress, should set up a separate account for his expenses. so when hellousers trip is finished with funding, we will continue with the second member.

if they are not short on money, they will probably cover some part of the cost on their own.
however, in my opinion they deserve to getting paid all expenses with even some extra cash for their work. it's all about motivation, and with not having to think about expenses, the motivation is much higher.

Someone set this bitch up so we know how much money we are working with. Personally I'd like to see hell and Desmond. I'd also like to see them in their own rooms and play money. They've been a huge asset to this cause.

Here's the current program for the congress:

I don't see Lauster's or Beren Atac's name anywhere being one of the presenters. Does anyone have info on them being at the congress?

Note that Sarah Millar is doing some presentations who is one of the key people at Samumed. Will be interesting to see what she'll be presenting.

We'd all like to see them with lots of spending money and their own rooms but we can't afford that. We need to be sensible and responsible here or it won't get done. We can't raise $10,000. We'll be lucky to raise $4,000.

And I know how much money we are working with.

                            1. Air fare for the two of them - $1,500 to $1,800

                            2. Hotel - $850 - $1,100 (depending on if it's 4 nights or 5 nights)

                            3. Admission to the hair loss congress - $1,550.

Total is about $4,300 for the above expenses. Plus there will be some incidentals, such as transportation to get them from the airport to the hotel and little stuff like that.
The total will probably be about $4,600 to $4,900.

Now you know the numbers. We need some good contributions soon.

No jjo is right. Hellouser has posted a lot of intelligent useful posts and his few off-beat posts should not be taken seriously because we all have our ups and downs.

You are just peddling mean-spirited hate is all.
