If I have hypertension, should I quit Rogaine?

    Hi

I've been on Rogaine and Propecia for several months and they seem working. I'm really worried that I may get hypertension in the future since I have a family history of hypertension.

Can people with hypertension use minoxidil? I really, really don't want to think about giving up this drug after the results that I've seen.

    Thanks!

Well minoxidil used to be used as an anti-hypertensive medicine so some people actually notice that their heart rate speeds up (tachycardia) when they apply rogaine as some of it can get in systemically. Tachycardia is a response to a drop in blood pressure (when it goes too low in this case) so it certainly won't elevate your blood pressure but you'd have to be careful if you do start an anti-hypertensive. Ask your doc.

I can tell you that I did suffer the heart palpitations upon the first couple of applications but not since.

      Thank you for your comments!

I don't know if any in the forum suffers from hypertension and is on minoxidil. I would like to know what their doctors say. I know that every individual is different. But I'm interested to know!
