    Positive Results From Fin?

    Hello everyone.

Iīm about taking the decision of starting Finasteride. Had read enough about it and got my own conclusions, and THATīS NOT what this threadīs all about.(i refere to negative side effects)

What i would like to ask is, to all of those who had tried and got positive results,:

What kind of positive effects have you experienced beyond stoping hairloss?

I mean, how many of you experienced some or a lot of regrowth, increased thickness, strenght, and in what level,

just a bit regrowth but not for shure?

    Increased thickness really noticeable?

Iīm not asking if you got all your hair back, but in what level the positive effects came?

    Thanks a lot

I don't take fin, but I have heard from other people that there are sometimes positive side effects outside of hair growth too. Reduced skin oiliness, more energy, stuff like that. I think it might just be people who had previously excessive DHT. Like, excessive other than it was killing their hair.

You'd have to ask someone around here, 'cause again, I'm not taking fin. I think there might be a couple threads where people mention it though.

Been on Fin 2 times now.
First time I had really good regrowth at both hairline and at vertex/crown. It also got rid of terrible itching around crown outline.

I eventually got sides so I had to quit. Just restarted but on a much lower dose. I was surprised to find that some guys have been on low doses for 10+ years and never had any side problems. Only thing is they do sometimes have to increase dose eventually.

            Thanks for the replys.

What about regrowth or thickening on the hairline and temples? Have any of you experienced something really noticeable?

I have receeding temples e some thinning in frontal area. I use Minoxidil since 2010 and got some good results in the beginning. July 2011 iīve stopped apllying Minoxidil and iīve noticed the thinning around October 2011. Restarted Minox in October and by February i had also great results.

But 3 months ago, trying to get in shape, iīve started a wightlifting program and this last month iīve noticed an incredible shedding as i have never experienced. I can atribute this shed to the weightlifting workout since i knew that Minox was working ok. Has anyone experienced similar shed with weightlifting?

I've heard people saying they notice increased shedding with heavy weightlifting. I have no idea what's with that.

My experience after 21 months or so on finasteride, besides retaining hair, was minor regrowth (mainly in the crown area - maybe to a lesser degree elsewhere but it's hard to say since I don't take pictures). Also general thickening all over; my miniaturizing hairs kind of "went into reverse" and strengthened up again. The overall cosmetic result is appreciably better coverage and density.
I didn't notice any advancement of the hairline or temples. I'm a diffuse thinner, so I didn't have a lot of recession to begin with and no "slick bald" areas. But in general it's pretty impossible to move your hairline and temples forward on meds (you could get some vellus hairs but not much else).

FYI I also use keto shampoo 2%. I don't use minox.

You just have to try it and see. When I started Fin I had always read that it works better in the back and on most recent loss. For me that was not true in either case. So by the time I began Fin my hairline had initially receded about 20 years earlier(puberty), while the crown had only been thinning a few years at that time. Yet my hairline started coming back in 3-4 months- hair I had not seen in many years, while my crown did nothing. I was about to give up when I noticed it finally coming around at 9-10 months. I had good results in the back but did not get back all of my hair despite it only being a few years old at that time. I think I got better results in the front despite it being so old. Kinda ticked me off to be honest.

You just have to try it and see what happens...

Because sometimes they are irreversible and we don't know the real long term side effects.

25 going on 65, how long were you on fin before you noticed improvements in your hair situation?

Well besides feeling bad most of the time, what if you suddenly had no interest in women anymore? A co-worker showed interest in me, eventually invited me to her house and I did not care. When you feel like that you are not living but existing.

                        Good point.

But you're on propecia and you have mild hair loss and you have treatments coming down the pipe like 5 of them.

What are you worrying about? If I were you I would be so happy.

I'm in no treatment, shedding like a dog and with aggressive hair loss.

It's a little fuzzy after this long but I think shedding had stopped around month 6-7. (I didn't seem to have that bad of an initial fin shed... maybe because I had been on keto for awhile before I started fin, but who knows.)
As far as the hair looking better than when I started fin, it was probably something like 10-12 months in.

I have some personal good news in this situation, along with a ? on how to handle some of it, but will post it in a new thread.
